RadBro

I'm way late to this party, but the internet is your friend. I'm a ford guy, and there are a ton of forums frequented by car guys that you can find great advice and resources from. (Ford-trucks.com, etc) I'm sure GMC has the same. I've been able to find some great info on repairs from there. Also, YouTube is freaking fantastic for how to videos. Changed my radiator in my truck two weeks ago and was unsure on a connection, found a YouTube video showing exactly what I needed.

Good for you for trying to fix things yourself. I'm no expert by any means, I'm just pretty good with taking things apart and putting them together and I can follow directions well.

Oddly enough, I got between 250,000 and 300,000 miles off each of my cars. Maintenance really paid off!

Nice. I have a 10 year old Honda with 140k. I plan on keeping it as long as I can. Definitely want to hit 200k

I got these results off 3 different cars. I kept each car for at least 10 years.

It was great not having a car note most of the time!

That Is odd as hell. I'm looking at the vehicle starting electrical schematic right now aND the Crankshaft position sensor is nowhere in there.

Make sure you have the correct schematic. In mid 1999 GM changed the body styles of their trucks as well as the engines.
1999 "CLASSIC" truck had the 5.7 engines and the "New Body" truck had the 5.3 (as well as the 4.8 and 6.0)
Often times people are not aware of the body change of the 99 model trucks.

PS...look under "emissions" to find the crank sensor schematic.
