Tunica is sad as hell these days
It's really fricking sad. My dad was a gambling addict and I have a lot of memories from Tunica's hey days. Spent a lot time at Kid's Quest while my dad sold his soul to slot machines.
The old Grand Casino/Harrah's is abandoned and creepy as frick. It used to be the nicest place to go in Tunica.

What led to Tunica’s demise as a gambling town?

I remember it going to shite when the 2008 recession hit...and then the Mississippi River flood a few years later was the nail in the coffin.

The Mississippi Gulf coast was nicer, the recession in 09 and being outside of levee protection and the 2011 Mississippi River flood was a 1-2 punch. Arkansas legalizing gaming and Corona closures are probably the final blow.

It's also a generational thing. People that typically went to casinos were boomers and gen-X'ers.
Younger generations have less interest in gambling. They either are broke or spend their money on smartphones, video games, and other millennial shite.

Was she just working this job to pay for college too?

Pardon us son, she ain't no kid.
That's a cocktail waitress in a Dolly Parton wig.
I said, "I know, ain't she great, Dad?
That's the kind I dig."
