If our universe is a computer simulation, then the concept of God shifts from debatable to near certainty.

Meh. A creator doesn't have to be God as described by religion.

But an entity or entities creating a computer simulation suddenly become a lot more likely to meet the "everywhere, always watching, knew us before we were born, can grant us an afterlife etc etc etc" type God.

Pretty much what I believe. What's more likely, that some beings on Earth got it exactly right with a book, or whatever the "creator" is cannot and will not be understood by some beings on Earth?
