It doesn't really matter.
You mean to tell me that his father, knowing full-well the stereotypes of Muslims in this country, would be perfectly OK with letting his son bring what looks like a briefcase bomb to school? That doesn't pass the smell test.
The kid was told by his teacher to not take it out while he was at school because people were going to get nervous about it. Yet, he took it out later in the day and plugged it in during English class when he wasn't getting the attention that he wanted.
Based on those two facts alone, no one in that family deserves the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think some people realize there isn't animosity towards this kid. The animosity is towards all of the idiots in the media and general public who hopped in their SJW/victim soapbox and refused to step down as the facts came out and showed that this entire thing was a publicity stunt.
I give Ahmed mad props for taking advantage of the situation and getting his 15 minutes. Kid is a genius.
