Climbing cell phone/broadcast towers has to be up there for scariest jobs.

1999 foot tower being climbed in South Dakota
Dude climbing cell phone tower under old OSHA rules, barely using the safety hooks
Climbing 1700 foot tower with weird music
I'd have to get paid at least $200,000 a year minimum to do this, maybe even more.

Nobody on the OT is going to take a pay cut to do that job.

I get nauseous just watching the videos. Especially when one of those towers has pegs without hooks on the sides.
Those are brave men who do dangerous work so I can shitpost online on my phone.

I'm terrified of heights. To be honest, once I got higher than 100 feet above the ground, an additional 1,000 to 2,000 feet wouldn't make that big of a difference to me.

I used to climb 1500 foot towers.
Only buckled in when stopped for a rest or work.
Young and dumb......
BTW I was paid by the foot for climbing, but nothing for coming down.

We used to climb a radio tower as kids at night, very stupid on our part.
We would go up several hundred feet
Dumb arse kids

I get this tingling feeling down in my abdomnen when watching heights like that. Someone should build a drone to work on those towers.

They better start a "More Women in Tower Climbing Repairs" initiative started out of the gate to make sure they even it out for that pay.

Some of these towers look like you could just have a helicopter dangle you down on a rope...
Also the Earth looks flat as frick from up there.

I know someone & he makes even more than that but he is never home. Worse than turnarounds bc the travel never ends.

Also once you're on a tower that goes higher than 1776 feet, like that 1999 foot one in South Dakota, you're higher than the top of the World Trade Center (the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere).

Why though? Just tear the whole thing down.

No idea but he is up there for a reason.

I'd be fine with everything except the grabs going up the actual antenna. Seems there should be blocking on the ends to prevent the carabiner from sliding off during a fall.

How do towers this big get built? I know there aren't any cranes that can lift pieces that high

I always assumed like this scene in Ten Commandments when they erected the obelisk.

Cousin did that for a living. Said your legs really had to be in shape. Rested by leaning backwards. He wasn't scared of heights, obviously, said something about it you are over 50 feet up you are gonna die anyways, so... Nope, not me.
