Cleaning a Keurig

How often do you clean your Keurig? Buddy had not cleaned his in two years 
and had some nasty stuff in there

Every two months I circulate a half gallon of white vinegar through the reservoir then rinse it out until the smell is gone

I use only bottled water in mine. Never clean it. No issues.

I'm not poor and only run distilled water in my Virtuoline.
You know they make this stuff called Dezcal that uses citric acid. Get some.

I think the machines are getting a little better. My first one from 5 or 6 years ago just started punking out and giving me a small cup, no matter how much I cleaned it. My new one hasn't had any problems after two years. I have stuck to using Brita filtered water or bottled.

Every couple years mine starts to act up, only spitting out a small amount of coffee. Bring over to sink turn it over and beat the crap out of it. It must reset it or release air bubble. Works every time. Did Google search and learned this trick.

The white vinegar is to clean out any carbonate scale and to kill any Bacteria
You guys that use bottled water won't see any scale buildup but you still are susceptible to bacteria growth in the pump

the part that water goes in, goes in dishwasher once every two weeks. The little nozzle thing that can be popped up and out, run it in sprayer water in sink.

all true but the dishwasher can clean the part that holds water as well as vinegar. I hope so. crap I hate running vinegar that's why I got a keurig.

The single biggest drawback to a Keurig is you can't easily remove the pump, you can't drain the pump and you can't clean the pump

I bought this cleaner that Keurig makes to run through the machine. You have to run it several cycles though.

interesting...does the cleaner smell decent? I just cringe at the thought of having boiling vinegar smelling up my house...

Ya'll do realize that the pump in a Keurig only pumps air right? All it does is create a vacuum to draw water into the heating chamber and then pressurize the chamber to pump out the hot water. You can't clean the pump because there is nothing to clean. Any scale build-up will be in the chamber and water lines leading to and from it.

I didn't notice much of a smell to it tbh. Bought it at Target...it's right by all the Keurig stuff. Think the cleaner is like $12.
