Flight attendant announces a veteran on board and people clap. How long has this been a thing?

Sat on a flight where they loaded a dead soldier for his trip home.Saw them load the coffin. We didnt clap. Get over yourself for 5 mins and appreciate what these people give up.Some give their lives . i think thats worth a little time.

They swore in some ROTC kids at halftime of the LA Tech basketball game tonight. The crowd gave them a standing ovation for a solid minute.

I think the "thank you for your service" shtick is overdone. People will interrupt someone to say it when it is mentioned that they served.

Baby Boomers feel tremendous guilt for how they treated returning Vietnam vets, so they are overcompensating... And it's snowballed.

Triggered over clapping for veterans. WOW

And is all started after Desert Storm, and as 777 said was kind of in response to the terrible way Vietnam vets were treated prior.

We go a bit far with some of the thanking Vets stuff.

It’s funny a lot of people on here that are Vets don’t really want to be bothered, that’s my experience with most military friends and family that actually did shite. I have one friend that just sat his fat arse on a ship for a few years and he is all about getting every damn benefit and perk he can get away with for
his Vet status. Including how he left the military.

it seems like it's usually the REMFs that are the chest pounding "look at me, I'm a vet" attention whores
