I just want to say, this thread topic is incredible. All we need now, is one of these:

and more topics like this. It's this stuff that makes us men, and helps organize our brains into coherent ideas that shape the world and our future.

Carry on, bros, carry on the good fight

Another buddy of mine was close to you as he was with 2-29 FA, 8ID attached to 42nd DIV FA, to 2ACR. You guys had a fight at Medina alright.

He told me the amount of DPICM and HE shot at the Iraqis by his battalion was just crazy stupid.

ETA: Dammit...now I need to go back and study Malvern Hill again.

Vader,
How you going to cross any bridges? Or can we assume you're gonna cork it and float ala Oregon Trail?

I don't know enough about bridging assets during that time frame to know

Infiltrate, assimilate, disable the canons. The SEALs get it done in time, not in a frontal assault. SEALs win.

1,000 SEALS are going to infiltrate a force of tens of thousands and destroy close to 300 cannons without anyone noticing or stopping them? Come on, this is not CoD or Battlefield 4.

Armies, regiments, and companies of that time were always willing to sign up volunteers, especially anyone who could shoot worth a damn. Blend in(infiltrate), make friends(assimilate), stand watch in the middle of the night when there wasn't a battle for a few days(disable canons). Ease off into the distance the next night and open up shop. Slaughter.

Actually, I'm not going to cross any bridges. That's why I said I would not be able to take my platoon of tanks and invade the north. There were no bridges over the Potomac that could hold the 68 tones of each of my tanks. I'd have had to engage the Army of the Potomac on the south bank in Northern Virginia.

I'd write "Abe Lincoln blows dudes" on my main gun's barrel. That should piss em off good.

We were on the right flank of 2nd ACR through 70, 73 easting. Then went northeast all the way to Rumaylah oil fields. Shot a shite load of tows and 25mm from my Bradley.

1st CAV or 1ID?

One of my old IN PSGs was 1ID and would tell me all sorts of stories about what 25mm does to stuff. Like stitching a building horizontally so that the roof collapses

My old BDE CDR fought at Medina, his speeches about the fight were something else. Got hit by friendly artillery and lost an inch off his right leg. yikes...

1st CAV out of Ft. Hood. I was originally in a Long Range Reconnaissance LRRP group out of VII corp but had a 11M secondary MOS so they transferred me to 2/5 Cav in mid october because they needed mech infantry folks. I started off as a driver and became a gunner after the driver broke his arm falling off the Bradley in the middle of the night. Always maintain 3 points of contact kids.

They'd be fighting for the Union, dumbass

I'm making two assumptions here:
1) They are fighting with the side they are on, not in place of the entire army.
2) They would obviously be fighting for the side that lost the war originally. What's the point of discussing their effect on the outcome if you added them to the side that already won, dumbass?

Cool

Never was a fan of the Brad. Just beat you up too bad when up in the turrent (my hip hurts thinking about it). I was the FSO so I always rode with the CO CDR. I did get a good laugh when my CO's kevlar got lodged in the open turrent door and the guner traversed. He comes out the back hatch with his brain bucket bent in half.

I don't fit too well in an Abrams since I'm a big dude, but damn if it ain't like riding in a Cadillac.

My trusty, dusty ole M981 FISTV got blown up as a target in the Fort Lewis Impact area several years ago after it was de-mil'd. Truly a sad day and many memories in that vehicle.

Btw,
Kudos to you and DV both for your service

They added a switch to stop that on later models cuz people kept getting hurt. If the turret door is open now you can't traverse. Damn safety features.
