They’re declaring war on fat America.
You guys been clamoring for this for years. I would think these people would be your heroes.

An idea so good you have to make it mandatory.
Aren't they defunding the police? Who they gonna send out to enforce this new law?
911: Yeah we'll send Karen Squad right over!

I don't know if I'd consider removing the impulse shelves near the registers as "declaring war". Maybe they should outlaw fast food, sugar and alcohol in Berkeley instead? Those make a lot of people fat

As much as the OT hate on fat people, I thought this type of decision would be celebrated

If you want junk food, walk your fatass over to Isle 6 and get it
Fatties already have junk food in their basket when they get to the checkout line because they actively shop for it.
Regular people impulse buy junk food in the checkout line because they realize they haven't had a Snickers or Slim Jim in ages. Win-win for the customer and store, but I guess government needs to ruin that too.

the only time I buy jack links jerky is in the Walmart check out line. Which is very rare but that is one of life's treasures

Nothings wrong with Ca that can't be fixed with a "big one."

This is why you have farmers markets. I'd be okay with sugar tax if we could use it to support local farmers for cheaper fish, meat and fresh American grown veggies.

NorCal is just the worst ever

Wt me rephrase... I'd be okay with ending modified corn syrup or corn subsidies that goes into making processed crap.

I do like the the idea of getting people to be less fat.
But this is government overreach in private business.
The real answer is limit what food stamps can buy to just bare essentials and some extra healthy options.

The problem with that is processed stuff gives you more bang for your buck. (Calories and tasty MSG) Healthy foods are more expensive.

Fantastic idea that needs to become a mainstay.
Maybe even for the simple fact that there will be less crying kids in the checkout Line whining because their mom won’t let them have a snickers.

Are they trying to run everyone out of Califonia?

Those same people are also a huge huge huge drain on our medical system. Diabetes and heart problems arise and one could probably argue that it would be more cost effect to give healthy credits for food stamps to make fresh veggies more affordable because they are on Medicare and require costly medical treatment

This is a massive win for consumers
By removing what they want from the checkout lines?

The are literally just banned from the checkout line, not selling them at the store
It is literally none of Kate Harrison's goddamn business where they decide to display sale items on their own sales floor.

Then junk food shouldn’t be allowed to be bought with government assistance programs right?
