This isn’t always true. Maduro is generally a stronger cigar, but color isn’t always an indication of strength.
I do find darker wrappers to have "fuller" flavor, but can be an easier flavor for a beginner. I like Maduro over some spicier light wrappers. Do agree to try some Connecticuts first. My favorite mild flavor smoke is the H. Uppman Classic. Mostly because the shop near me sells them for under $5 a piece when they are typically a $7+ cigar. Actually on the back patio smoking a Charter Oak Connecticut-Nicaragua right now.

Drew Estate is highly overrated, imo. I do like the Liga no 9 and Fat Bottom Betty though.

I didn't really see it mentioned, but the Rocky Patel line is pretty beginner friendly. I like the LB1 and Vintage 1990. Also like the Camacho stuff as well as the Diesel Whiskey Row. Tabak Especial is a good flavored cigar, very sweet.

I want to start smoking a cigar occasionally. What is your favorite cigar? Taste, quality, price. Again, just a beginner.
Poke around and find what you like. Most shops will give you good guidance if you give them a budget. Buy singles until you find out what you like. Don't want a box of cigars laying around that you're not stoked about smoking.

Everything they release is excellent and moderately priced. The story of how their father fled Cuba with nothing but his tobacco seeds is amazing as well.

Agreed. I've not had one of theirs that I've been disappointed with. Was finally able to find their My Daughter line a few weeks back for the first time. Really enjoyed it.

If you see a pig with a big stick in it's mouth, it's gonna rain.

I’ve not had one from that line, but have heard good things. Capitalism baby

Macanudo
Cohiba red dot is another
You can go to Total Wines and have no trouble selecting a cigar. Their shelves list the ratings of the cigars.
Snobs will hate this but it is good for noobs...Buy one that is 90+ and has a light brown wrapper. Should be a good mellow smoke

My only advice would be to not force yourself to smoke the whole thing your first time. Cigars are a luxury item, which to me means it’s about enjoyment, not value. If you get halfway through your first stick and you feel like you’re done with it, just toss it. No reason to will your way through a Churchill if you aren’t enjoying it anymore.

Didn't know anything about them until I was in Total Wines and saw they had a clearance on a 95 rated stick for $5. Damn good

Now do: Cougars for Beginners.

Don't smoke a cigar, smoke a pipe.
Seriously, I occasionally use one of my dozen or so pipes and it's a much better smoke than a cigar.
There are so many quality blends available (not your drugstore crap) that you can get exactly what your looking for.
If someone were really interested in pipe smoking, I have a ton of quality pipe tobacco from top notch English/Balkan blends to great Virginia/Perique blends to Kentucky Dark Fired. I'd send someone a sample of some if they were genuinely interested.

The best smoke I've ever had was Esoterica Penzance. Look it up. I promise if you cigar smokers tried that blend, you'd switch.

The problem with a pipe is you spend more time lighting it than you do smoking it.
Posted on 1/26/23 at 1:43 pm to TigerOnTheMountain
If your pipe is a good one, I love my Savinellis, and your draw is right, you shouldn't have that many problems.
Additionally, pipe tobacco needs some dry time prior to lighting up. And a nice collection of Savinellis and similar beautiful pipes look great when displayed in a pipe rack.
Savinelli 320s and 636s are beautiful pipes and smoke like a charm.

This is my normal smoke of theirs if I can find it. Wonderful maduro.

The La Aroma de Cuba lines are very solid as well, very similar to My Father's from what I've had.
