Modern all the way. Traditional churches tend to care much more about what you wear, mostly play hymns, and are too conservative for me. I would much rather be able to wear what I want. Listen to good music(like Hillsong) and hear an applicable message, not one that's telling me I'm going to hell, or telling me about the prosperity theory.

Gonna take the OT sarcasm off for a moment and go full on "dear diary"

I can't really bring myself to support a lot of pastors and churches in the south. I'm from a small Louisiana town where the average income is probably less than $40,000 per household in the older community.

Yet, The pastor at my grandparents' church lives in a nice home and drives two brand-new $40,000 plus vehicles while his only job is the "preach" 3x a week.

I just can't really bring myself to support that level of narcissism as to think you are somehow above your congregation and have been called on directly by God to teach them the error of their ways.

I've never been much of a church person. I'd rather spend that time on Sunday with my family doing a family activity (zoo, hike, go to the park, etc.). I get more out of that.

Be aware that I believe that you can believe and be religious without having to go to church.

find the new fangled 'be seen while praising' type churches with the flavor of the hour band

Wow this pretty much hits the nail on the head. I grew up in very traditional type churches. I haven't attended regularly since college, and I'm not very proud of it. The biggest problem is BR and the north shore are filled with churches exactly like you described above. We've tried attending some but I just can't take it seriously.

I just feel like the non denominational fad that's taken over is like the Amazon.com of church. Don't have to put much effort into finding what you believe in, so we'll just believe everything.

I haven't been to church in 10 years, but they built this MERICA church in NWA.

I walked out of a church here in Seattle because one of the pastors got up there and said "you have to lift your hands while worshipping. I want everyone in here to lift their hands for this next song, don't be afraid, fight through it, nothing will bring you closer to God, etc"

I dont mind him suggesting it but he came off like a used car salesman, as if he got a bonus for each congregation member who raised their hands, very aggtrssive

What this pastor did goes completely against Jesus teachings

If I go, give me traditional. Traditional also applies to "wings". Boneless wings are for phroots and wimmens!

Well first none of those things make you a terrible person. Second, the Church is not a self help clinic. I honestly never hear things like this at my church so id recommend trying another one
