so if one did create a black hole that could sustain itself. That would mean the end of life on earth, right?

They have Cajun and Creole chicken 'burgers' at Popeye's in Asia. They are already ahead in that regard.

Do you know what it would take to produce a black hole that could sustain itself? Certainly a few atoms getting crushed won't do it. If you compress our planet enough to make a black hole, it would measure about an inch in diameter. Black holes aren't some crazy vacuums with infinite suction, the retain the gravitational pull of its source.

Many in the Manhattan Project thought the first nuclear explosion would catch the entire atmosphere on fire.

Even if it could sustain itself it would take around 50 billion years to swallow the earth. It it is theorized that the earth is bombarded my microscopic black holes all the time due to collisions with cosmic rays. They may actually pass through the earth and you and me daily. The ones produced by the LHC would disintegrate almost immediately.

“The God particle found by CERN could destroy the universe,” Hawking wrote in the preface to a book, Starmus, a collection of lectures by scientists. The Higgs Boson could become unstable at very high energy levels and have the potential to trigger a “catastrophic vacuum decay which would cause space and time to collapse and… we would not have any warning to the dangers,” he continued.

Dr. Stephen Hawking recently warned that the reactivation in March of CERN’s large hadron collider could pose grave dangers to our planet…the ultimate reality check we are warned. Hawking has come straight out and said the ‘God particle’ found by CERN “could destroy the universe

Stephen Hawking says the ‘God Particle’ that scientists believe created the world could actually end it, too.

The particle – know as Higgs boson – “has the worrisome feature” that it could become unstable at extremely high energies and create a “black hole” that would collapse the universe, the legendary British physicist has warned in a new book titled Starmus, according to the Daily Express.

you gotta link to that reputable source. I think that might be taking him slightly out of context.
