I'm guessing this would be our best bet if it ever came down to it. Once it reaches terminal velocity and releases it's 10 independent warheads I think we'd have trouble knocking them all out, especially if there are multiple missiles incoming, each with 10 warheads.

Our satellite systems detect the launch blooms of missiles. Giving us almost instantaneous warning of a launch.

The challenge I see is that if China were to attack us:

They would launch some sort of electronic/cyber warfare capability to either disable or confuse our systems enough to delay countermeasures being taken in time to destroy the missile before MIRV separation.

That's a good point. And thankfully the odds of an attack like this happening are very remote.

Doesn't help that China basically owns this country.

bruh.... China only owns about 8% of the total US debt... and the debt we owe them is in treasury bonds, which they buy to keep their currency low, which is better for trade... and since they sell so much stuff to the US, they essentially have to buy our debt to unload the American dollars we are giving them.... they buy our debt because it's a good deal for them...

add in the fact that you can't just recall treasury notes, so there's no "give us our money back" scenario possible...

and did you know that for every $1 that America owes another country, it is owed 89 cents back, as a result of us buying other countries' debt? it's true...America actually makes more money off of buying other people's debt than other people make buying theirs...

of course you probably didn't know any of this, since this doesn't go over well with Fox News' agenda....

So you're saying that Bush's Iraq war didn't really cost $1T that we borrowed from China?

The "China carries our debt" argument against them attacking the US does not carry much water.

China holds that much debt for one reason, to be able to destroy the US economy whenever they want. It is a bargaining chip to keep the trade imbalance. They probably also think it would stop us from taking action against them.

As China's economy grows and they become less dependent on US consumption, their holding our debt becomes a lowered deterrent.

Furthermore, if you are going to engage in warfare against the US you probably have already viewed the economic losses as acceptable.

and it's doing so well right now....

they'd destroy their own in the process... they rely heavily on the US to buy stuff... if our economy went south, theirs would go tits up too... that's not even up for dispute...

i'm not a 'Merica, frick yeah type of person, but if we want to take action vs. ANYONE, we will.... it would take something substantial for us to go at it with a China, but they'd be wise to not provoke the West

What you see that is the missile's housing. The actual missile is inside the giant green dick.

how is it adults today posting on a message board on a nice computer with today technologys dont fricking understand or know that 17000 miles per hour is the escape velocity required to reach space where ICBM's drop their warheads from.

Am I horrible person for wanting to see the Chinese military in action? Not WMD's of course, but I'd like to see how their Air Force responds to aggression to see how legit they really are. They've been beefing up their military for 2+ decades and not my knowledge, have seen zero action.

It would definitely be intriguing. I wish there was some type of Olympic-style war games that could be performed. You could have physical events involving individuals going through courses and shooting targets and you could also have simulated combat exercises with flight simulators and what not. Not sure if you could feasibly do anything to test naval capabilities, at least not in a head-to-head format.

$1T that we borrowed

again, with treasury notes, that can't just be called up on whenever China feels like it...

as of right now, we owe north of $19T, but to measure how fricked we are, you'd measure public debt vs. GDP... the US has a ratio of about 70%, which seems pretty high, but we are in better shape than the UK, Germany, Canada and a bunch of other countries you don't think of "financial crisis" about.... Japan, 214%... just sayin'...

the other important thing isn't the amount of money that the government owes, but rather the interest on that amount, which is what it actually pays back, and it iisn't very much, considering that interest rates are at historic lows -- it's very cheap for the US to borrow right now

also, keep in mind that a growing economy can turn the situation around fast -- the government took on a lot of debt during World War II, but the growth of the economy afterward made that debt irrelevant
