Jaguar is going all hybrid/electric by 2020. I think it's a mistake.

France, Norway, the U.K., India, Volvo (basically Sweden) and now China have all announced plans to be all-electric.

It's not about the oil and gas industry. They'll be fine with or without EVs.

It is about the gasoline car vs EV industry. That is a contest that EVs will undoubtedly win.

There are Chinese cars in the US right now. Buick's Envision SUV is made in China and there are others.

Should I put 100% of my retirement into Elon Musk?

God no. He loses money on every car he sells.

This. Copper, Lithium and Cobalt being the primary materials. You're welcome, future millionaires.

Chinas power plants are mostly fossil fuels though right?

and they have a frick ton of them too. i think about half of them are coal burning.

Fully electric cars are mother frickers on the environment to build is the biggest problem. So while, once they are in service, they are better for the environment and carbon footprint, they are much worse in the building process.

Oil is a huge part of the western economy and is cheap and easy.

Electric motors for a car will need huge batteries.

The current electrical power supply can't handle it.

Western countries will not be able to do this.

Countries that ban nuclear power will never be able.

There might not be enough rare earth minerals for electrical infrastructure on that scale.

Countries like Cambodia and India can't even power all homes.

It won't happen.
