-Children whose parents are divorced by 16 are more likely to be unemployed
-Those from broken homes are three times more likely to be chronically ill in 50s
-They are also more likely to drop out of school, get pregnant and take drugs

Children whose lives are shattered by divorce or family break-up are still suffering from the damage when they reach retirement age, a state-funded study said yesterday.

It said that children whose parents divorce by the time they are 16 are more likely than others to be out of work 40 years later.

The report by an ageing research group listed divorce or a parent quitting the home as central reasons – alongside physical or sexual abuse – why adults may be unable to hold down jobs in their 50s or to choose to work on in later years.

quote:

It said those who suffer family break-up or other harm early in life are most likely to be out of work in their mid-50s because of long-term illness.

'Those who face adversities during childhood, such as abuse, neglect, illness, parental absence or divorce, faced diminished employment prospects in later life, primarily due to permanent sickness,' the report found.

My parents divorced my senior year in HS. I still hate my dad. Now that all my siblings are married and both of my grandparents have died, I don't know if I plan to ever see him, again.

I gave you a downvote because this takes nothing else into account other than the divorce.

I’m pretty sure there are some people who get divorced that are frick ups and the divorce and the way they raise their kids are results of them being frick ups.

I had to shut down when i was divorced in order to survive it. Problem is that made my boys shut down also.

I think this is all backwards. People are getting divorced because they have sickly loser kids

Mine divorced when i was 12, my mom left my dad no choice as she would disappear for weeks at a time with her addiction problems.

I havent seen or spoke to her in nearly a decade due to her lifestyle. The things i saw growing up wont ever happen around my kids.

When there are kids involved, divorce is very often a selfish and short-sighted decision by people who have their priorities out of order.

It really should be illegal, it's essentially child abuse.

I know two couples getting divorces right now. Both situations are due to selfishness and shite choices on both sides. Their kids are already acting out and it will absolutely affect them in the long term.

If you have kids- it is pure selfishness to do anything that could threaten your marriage. That bond should be protected at all costs.

My parents are divorced. All 3 of us have college degrees. My other 2 siblings are actually very wealthy and none of us have drug or marital issues.

My parents didn't really love each other. My dad got my mom pregnant in college and they stayed married until I was 12 because they tried to make it work for their kids. Sometimes it's for the best. We all love both of our parents and understand. No bitterness at all. Each situation is different I guess.

Many times staying together is more damaging to kids than divorce

That's a whole lot of denial right there. Damn, your loveless parents really did a number on you.

Divorce and broken families will be the down fall of the West. I will say this though. Couldn't imagine being a young man married today. People make poor decisions daily on social media and air out personal business. Also married couples texting all day long seems extremely unhealthy.
