If a 17 year old gets pregnant, has no job, no education, no prospects for income, and the father is absent from the child's life, that's not a life the child deserves.

I think the government should give free abortions to people on welfare and if they choose to have more than 1 kid not give them extra welfare for it.

I bet that'll be a popular opinion on here.

I'd rather someone have an abortion than having the kid knowing they're not going to give a shite about raising it.

If there are pregnancy complications and the mother would not make it through childbirth.

I understand why this position gets tossed around, but it's still fricked up to approach it from that angle.

All of that can be eliminated by not getting pregnant. Our advanced American society, it being 2016 and all, should have a zero tolerance policy for people who use abortion as birth control.

Oh, you and your partner forgot to use cheap and widely available contraception so now you're going to violently destroy human life after the fact? How progressive.

As an added bonus, I'd also throw in a tubal ligation.

Well let me present you with one situation. What happens if your wife just found out she's 4-6 weeks pregnant. You are both ecstatic that you are having a child. She has severe abnormal pains. Go to doctor and find out it's an ectopic pregnancy. Very real and quite likely if not immanent chance of rupturing and death for your wife. No chance of a pregnancy making it to term. It's not considered an abortion necessarily to have the fallopian tube removed. But it is ending that life to save the mother.

I'll never think that abortion as a means of birth control is okay. And I still consider myself pro-life. But I do realize there is a fringe. It's a small one, but it exists.

So just like Displaced, it sounds as if you're also Pro-Choice.

If you're "against" something, except under certain circumstances, that means you're "for" it.

I'm not saying I disagree with you. But that's just the way it is and to think things can be turned towards the other direction is naive IMO. You can be upset about the way society is these days, but to ban abortion outright would be a terrible move.

What I love is how majority on the posters in this thread are very anti abortion, but are also very anit welfare. And would complain about woman on welfare having too many children. Make up your minds. Which is it going to be?

I imagine that they would preach abstinence as birth control. Which has proven to be completely ineffective. People are going to frick. There's no stopping it.

I wish her mom would have decided to have an abortion. J/k, but her parents are just as bad as she is. They took her to the clinic.

This is the dumbest statement ever. I mean I get how one would be against some of the "exceptions" and would not consider themselves to be on the same side of the argument. But one could easily flip your stupid talking point.

"If you are for something, except for certain circumstances, then you aren't really for it."

I'm against murder except for the death penalty...

What does that make me? Pro-murder?

I think of it more from a "what we should do as people" perspective than what I expect the government to do. I don't expect any immediate change, I think it will take a very long time. I think we should push to make abortion less and less acceptable as an option.

Abortion advocates talk about making abortion "rare," while simultaneously saying it shouldn't be something society makes difficult. I just can't agree with that. I want people (including men involved in the process) to know that there will be social ramifications of abortion. I don't want to make examples of people, and I don't really want to shame people at all, but I'd like to live in a society where people know if they don't use BC and use abortion as a BC backstop, they are going to be outside of the mainstream and separated from what our society views as responsible, ethical behavior.

This is one of the dumber abortion arguments made.

Society should help mothers in need. Mothers shouldn't have kids they can't afford. Mothers who have kids should find ways to responsible support those kids.

I understand the practical implications, but they're not contrary positions. Being against the idea of government assistance run amuck doesn't mean you somehow can't be opposed to abortion and remain ideologically consistent.
