I had a 97 Ford Ranger that the CEL came on right after it hit 100K. My dad's a mechanic and the scan tool showed the o2 sensor. Changed it out and I was good for about 2 weeks when it popped up again. Same o2 sensor, changed it and was good for a month when it popped up again. Said frick this and drove with the light on until I got rid of the truck with 240k miles.

This is why I always carry a dual-diagnostic systems disgronificator in my Dodge Charger. You just never know.

Everyone that owns a OBD II equipped car should own at least a cheap scan tool. You can pick them up as cheap as $20.
There should be no reason modern cars can’t simply give you these stupid codes without having to plug something in. I don’t get it.

It’s really not the emergency it’s made out to be. I’ve driven over 2k miles through various times my light was on in my beater 01 Yukon. Majority of the time it’s just O2 sensor, at the worst your fuel consumption is just inefficient as a result and that’s why it came on.
Your engine is not gonna blow up

If you're not noticing any issues like trouble starting, sputtering or rough idle, loss of power going up hills, or overheating then it's probably some emissions sensor like evap or some bullshite.
Pretty much this. Have one that lights up intermittently on my son's Xterra and it's due to a catalytic converter not meeting the emissions requirements it's set for. Car runs strong as heck, no issues. My mechanic and the dealer have both said it's fine to drive if I'm not noticing any performance issues. I'll replace the cat eventually, but it's not urgent.

Well it’s 9 am and we haven’t had an update yet.

Sorry.
I took it to Autozone yesterday and it’s just Evap stuff. It’s not the gas cap though.
I’m 300 miles in and just stopped for gas and it’s running fine. Lights still on though

They dont want you fixing it. They want you to take it back to the stealership.
