Girlfriend and I looking to get away for a week in the summer. Neither of us have ever been. Are the beaches/resorts worth a damn around charleston? she wants the ocean while I want the history and charm of charleston. Can we get both?

Any other advice of Charleston would be very much appreciated. Places to stay, dine, shop, etc...

TIA

Folley beach. Isle of Palms is apparently the upscale beach area but I haven't been there

How are the accommodations at folley beach?

Would probably prefer to stay on the beach and have an easy drive to downtown.

Halls Chophouse is AMAZING. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Great atmosphere as we'll.

Nothing fancey but I like it because it "feels" like Charleston. Lot of different places on the beach you can look up online to best suit your needs. Folley beach would work with your easy drive.

Isle of Palms/Sullivan's Island is a short drive away.

Drink and Shop on King Street and at the market.

My family has gone to Kiawah for going on 15 years now and bought a place there about 10 years ago. We spend our summers there! Love it there!

Look at Isle of Palms. Much closer to downtown, only about 5/6 miles vs Folley's 17, cleaner, and less people. Plus it is off of Mt Pleasant, the most upscale suburb of Charleston. There is so much to do and see. Filling a week is easy. Downtown is fantastic. Take a tour of the USS Yorktown. Great town for golf too. There are several plantations around that are open to visitors, all of which are beyond beautiful. Oh and food, food everywhere.

One thing some may not mention, go see the Angel Tree. Probably the oldest tree on the east coast. Unbelievably massive oak.

This. Had the dry aged 16 oz ribeye last Wed night. Billy Hall is a good dude too. Talked SEC baseball with him for 20-30 mins. He played at Moo St in mid 90s.

Yeah would definitely compare Isle of Palms versus Folley beach and decide what you prefer. I just haven't gone to Isle of Palms. Didn't have much money when I was there.
