Charleston. My wife and I were debating which one to visit before we moved away from Atlanta and ultimately chose Savannah because Southwest flies to Charleston and we could get back there easier. Savannah was o.k., and not a bad place to visit if you're within driving distance, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to get back there.

Savannah for me. I liked both, but if I could only choose one to go back to, for me, it would be an easy decision: Savannah.
ETA: They are only a couple of hors apart. Both if you can swing it.

Charleston is awesome. I'm a little over an hour from there and I've never been disappointed in food, drinks, and/or women.

Both. If it’s a guys’ trip then Charleston, but both really are great.

I just moved out of Charleston largely because of how bad the traffic and congestion has gotten. They are growing way too fast for the infrastructure to keep up...so Savannah for me but depends on your priorities.

Savannah is prettier than Charleston, every street corner is a post card. It is the prettiest downtown in the world, in my opinion. And you can have open containers. People go to Savannah and spend all their time on River St, which is the equivalent to going to NOLA and spending all your time on Bourbon St. then walk away with shitty opinions.
I just don't want this thread to turn into a Savannah bashing thread. Savannah really is great. My dad just made it his second home for retirement, has been to both Charelston and Sav many times, and he has enough money to live wherever he wants, he chose Sav.
What Im saying is to each his own. They are totally different cites with alot in common but have totally different vibes.
One shouldn't pick one or the other, one should pick both.

How is this even a question. Charleston day in and day out. It is an awesome city to either live in or visit. Savannah is nice for a long weekend but way much more in Charleston.

Savannah is dirtier but both are great, hard to have a bad time in either

Been to both on multiple occasions. Both are great, but Charleston gets the nod.

Savannah is OK but easy to make a wrong turn and get shot too.

And Charleston doesn't have a massive violent ghetto very close to nice areas or anything

I used to volunteer at the soup kitchen in downtown Charleston on Meeting Street. I assure you there are bad neighborhoods you can take a wrong turn into. Downtown is a peninsula surrounded on 3 sides by water. The north side, the only way out, very murdery.

If food and/or live music are important to you its Chas in a landslide

Sav has great food and live music on every corner. Big acts don't really come through because there isnt a big ampitheater like in north charleston. So there's that, I guess.

Been to both cities and I still have family that lives in Charleston. I've been told by many that Savannah is a basically a dirty Charleston.
