Been a while since I was in either. Charleston has less crime IMO and a more insulated “downtown” community. Buying into the area now, I’d go with Savannah because every time we look (and we have several times) it looks like you can get more bang for your buck.

Having lived in Charleston for almost four years and spent multiple weekends in Savannah, I think for living I would narrowly pick Charleston. I like visiting Savannah for the weekends with the historic district and the overall lower cost of living is nice.
Charleston has: much more expensive, much worse traffic, nicer beaches, less crimey and patchy bad neighborhoods, better food, more Yankees, no open container.

College of Charleston is coed not an all girls college. I vote Charleston over Savannah all day long.
