Has anyone here with either of these companies ever had to make a claim? How are they to deal with? I'm thinking of switching homeowners insurance companies due to price and these two are quite a bit less than what I'm paying now with great deductibles.

I'm a bit worried about making the jump since they're rated by Demotech and not AM Best.

Thoughts?

I've never heard of them but pay attention to any named storm deductibles.

I’ve always liked Centauri.

Great experience with Centauri recently when I had a washing machine flood event.

That's good to know. How fast were they with paying?

Both are fine and both will pay out. Whichever independent agent you are using should have access to someone a little better and still competitive rate IMO. Demotech is becoming more and more popular because of the $ it takes to get an AM Best rating.

Centauri over Anchor if I had to choose.

I hate the idea of going Demotech.

I'd be more concerned with admitted vs non-admitted than Demotech vs AM Best IMO. Both Centauri and Anchor are admitted, so you have LIGA as the fallback in case shite hit the fan and your carrier went insolvent. There's a whole lot of companies writing now in south Louisiana and the vast majority are Demotech.

I've got a lot more experience dealing with Centauri and they've been around longer. If I had to pick between the 2, Centauri

I’ve had Centauri for several years and had one claim which was a fire in my workshop due to an old refrigerator that finally went on the blink and caught fire. Fortunately, there was no ventilation in there so once the fire sucked up all the oxygen it put itself out, otherwise my entire house would have burned to the ground. Had zero issues and they were quick. My independent agent acted as the broker for a Centauri agent in Slidell. I would recommend them to anyone.

They're the two cheapest quotes so far that include wind & hail. What companies in Ascension Parish would you recommend?

OP, make sure they don't depreciate your roof values. Its better to pay a couple extra hundred bucks a year for the security of knowing you will have your claim paid out in the event of a loss.
