If he paid for a trip, trusted his guides and really didn't know. No fault to him. I know if I paid that kind of money to go on a hunt, I am paying for a piece of mind that everything is being done correctly.
He knew, he was convicted of this exact same thing in 2008 - killing a bear in an illegal area, bringing it back INTO the area and then lion about it
Now he's saying that once again he "didn't know".

Yup. Better off letting it just die a month later naturally with no added benefit of funding to the conservation.
I know the point you're trying to make, it just doesn't make sense in response to what I said. I said I don't get the mindset of people who want to kill exotic animals.
Under your hypo, if I could shoot an ailing lion and somehow benefit conservation efforts, I would. But that isn't how it goes, because I have to pay a bunch of money to kill the lion. I don't want to kill the lion and I don't want to pay a bunch of money.
Again, I understand how regulated hunting works, and understand the potential conservation benefits.
But I don't understand why someone is interested in paying thousands of bucks to off a lion or elephant, ESPECIALLY if he's about to kick the bucket anyway (I know not all of them are at that stage, just saying).

Then he should be punished.

killing rare
Everything that I've killed is far from rare. If you've been there you would know that.

You sound like an anti dentite

You have to bait and kill something that is "exotic" (even if not technically "rare") in order to get your jollies, mate. You should look into BDSM instead

Except he's done it before and been in legal trouble for it. If he still blindly assumes he's good to go, he's a first class idiot.
He knows and doesn't give a frick.

Gotcha
But at the same time, you could argue that about any other expensive hobby.
Why would someone pay $$$$ for their 6 yo kid to hit a ball with a metal stick year round?
Or deer hunting. People invest a ton of money (6 figures easily) to have a camp, property, etc. to harvest deer every year. These people could obviously afford food without having to kill off deer, but for some reason this is more acceptable?

To me, it sounds like the dentist was a victim here.

I mean, kind of. There are hobbies that make some sense to most (funding your kids playing sports makes sense to most people). There are hobbies that don't make sense to most but aren't that destructive to anything but yourself, arguably (spending 70k to climb Mt. Everest). Then there is this particular hobby.

that dentistry racketeering is at fault for Cecils death

See my edit about deer hunting. It could apply to any other type of hunting as well.

Sure. And some of the same stuff applies. I deer hunt, though not as much anymore, but I'll never care much for trophies. I like the meat, the gear, the friends, the land, the season prep, etc. more than the harvesting itself, to be honest. Hasn't always been that way, but it is now.

What exotic animals does Italy offer to hunt? May make that trip happen
You didn't "hunt" anything. You went on a guided tour. If you would've went out there by yourself that lion would've been balls deep in your backside. You trolls paying these ridiculous fees aren't hunting at all.
Posted on 7/28/15 at 5:19 pm to Rhino5
I walked an average of 18 miles per day during my time in South Africa. It was far from easy or a "guided tour".

So what are young going to do to stop it?
Better yet, what contributions have you made to the conservation efforts?

I'm guessing it varies, honestly. To continue my Everest climbing analogy, some of the people who climb should not be there at all, are totally dependent on guides/sherpas, and bag the peak and claim full credit after getting practically drug up there. Some people become leaders on guided climbs and practically become assistant guides despite paying for it.
Most people probably fall in the middle. Same for this, I bet. Some people do nothing more than take the shot, some truly stalk and have prepared and learn about the land and the animal, most are probably somewhere in between.
