Slowing down # of person-to-person interactions for a limited time to allow testing to catch up (thanks CDC) and prevent hospital overrun made sense to me and was a solid, worthwhile goal. Sometime after that someone decided to move the goal posts a

The goal posts didn't really move. Testing is still catching up in some areas. The biggest challenge with this is the spread of it from asymptomatic people, and in many areas you can still only get tested if you're showing symptoms.

This event created so many libertarians. We got front row seats into what government incompetence and overreach really looks like.

And just as many socialists it would seem. A lot of people got their first look at life without work and a fat government check, and I’m afraid that a lot of them developed a taste for idleness along the way.

This will go down as the biggest, most expensive overreaction in history.

If so, then its far worse than just a very expensive overreaction. It will prove very damaging to any future serious pandemic that may come in the future where people really need to be very concerned, and like the boy who cried wolf, people will not take it seriously.

Don't leave out the businesses that took out PPP loans without knowing if they'd actually need it. Or taking PPP loans to use the funds for other purposes because it only had a 1% interest rate.

It works for the overall number but not the demographics. Kids with it are largely asymptomatic. Way more than 1/3.

This is where people decide to forget that the concern was about the spread and infection rate overwhelming hospitals and increasing the mortality rate beyond what it normally would be.

Yah. Except that didn't happen either.

No.

My work makes me wear one in the common areas of the office (not at my desk) since I've been back. That's the only time I've worn one since this started.

Last time I’ve worn a mask for anything was in 2016 when I sprayed my gutted house for mold after the flood.

It's either that or we are going to shut everything down every time we have some sort of pandemic like the swine flu.

I clarified in a later post that I didn't have a big issue with the 15 days to figure out what we were dealing with. It's just been a moving target ever since.

I will add this to the discussion. There is no limit to what worldwide problems the combined intellect of the O-T Lounge can solve: COVID, foreign energy dependence, aging and death, trade imbalances, the federal deficit, the common cold....the list is endless! College boys like Fauci can’t solve anything. Only real people can who learned everything they know from the School of Life/Hard Knocks! Am I right or what?

My brother in law and sister are two of these. They were pretty left leaning anyway, but now that they've been sitting at home drawing more money than they made working, they do nothing but screech about how we can't open yet because it's too dangerous!!!

bullshite. Both of you are just lazy sacks of shite.

Mortality rate isn’t affected by spread. It doesn’t go up or down based on any factors other than demographics and even those can be broken down like the OP has done.

Except we’ve had novel viruses before and this was never the reaction. And there will be more. This was a new precedent set for no fricking reason other than fear and hysteria pushed by media.

Probably more. Because big intrusive government is right up their alley.

People don't care about the rights of others as long as they are being provided for by Uncle Sammy Clause. People who support intrusive government benefit from it.
