Maybe I’m dumb but how did the dogs not get hurt?

What kind of leash were they on, rope?

Not that I want to find out for real but how would that feel? Would it burn?
Would it numb you out?
Would you feel anything other than hitting the ground?

I doubt he felt hitting the ground.

The dogs were not running away! They were running to go call for help.

Definitely should be a Jack-arse stunt.

It’s a solid question. Im no scientist, but was watching a video last night on electric current. So if you can imagine a straight and tall lightning rod, well for some reason that pointy end of metal attracts lightning before the surrounding objects that arent pointy and lower to the ground. So I imagine the fact that the man was taller and pointier made the lightning hit him and go through the ground before the dogs since the leash holding the dogs is an insulator. If the leash would have somehow been a conductor, the dogs would have likely fried too.

Take all this with a college degree grain of salt

The guy's body is a more direct route to the ground than the leash and the dogs.
