Drive in, no pressure, they bring you an offer good for a week. Shop it around. One time they were the highest, one time a local dealer beat them, one time a company out of California crushed everyone's offer and picked it up in the grocery store parking lot down the street.

So, shop around.

I use to have a car problem, I am trying to stay to just two.

the only people i know who have sold a car to carmax is because the dealerships knew their car was fked up and carmax didn't, which is why i would never buy a car from carmax

Carmax beat gimmethevin and several dealers even when I was interested in buying from them. I made 6k on my 2020 gle 350. It was super easy. As long as you are accurate in your description they will give you exactly what the quote says. It took about 1 hour.

Plus trading in at the dealership reduces the taxable amount so you save on sales tax

Serious question…I thought trade-in is taken off the price after of new car price and sales tax total?

I've taken two cars to them. One was a Volvo wagon with 250k on it, but was in great shape. They offered me $700. I said no and sold it myself for $2500. I took an S40 to them and they offered me $2800 for it, I let them have it. It was extremely easy.

Just know what it's worth before you go in. They will inspect it and make you an offer.

Check out Carvana. They gave me a good bit more than Carmax. They do charge around $200 for pickup but still was more than Carmax. No haggle, very easy

This was not my experience. Maybe it's a Louisiana thing, but both the dealership and Carmax told us the "reduce sales tax with a trade in" line. I assume in LA you're taxed on the final amount after trade-in, incentives, add-ons, and warranties.
