Caribbean med schools are a lot easier to get in, no doubt. But, if they make good enough grades and can make it into a US residency program they are good to go.
Also, unless your physician tells you randomly, how the frick would you know where they went to med school? No one cares. A Physician is a physician.
Same thing can be said about DO Med students instead of MD med students. They are both capable physicians. It's all about what residency you get into after med school

Some are great and produce fine doctors.
Some suck.

Caribbean grads are held to higher standards than us grads for getting residency positions, so overall it doesn't make much of a difference. Residency is what molds a doctor anyway, not med school.

been away from academia for a long time but back in the day getting into med school was as much about political connections and nepotism as it was about grades, I knew of several qualified people that had the grades and scores but no connections, they had to look elsewhere and now they are fine physicians, also have a friend that is a pediatrician that left the US to avoid the draft during the VN war, went to med schools in Mexico and Japan, along with being a world class pervert he's quite a respected doc in his community

I have said this on this board several times. A very good friend of mine is an ER doctor here in BR. He went to a Caribbean medical school.
You would have no idea what his credentials were nor would you actually care if you were rushed into the ER.
He didn't make top notch college grades so he couldn't get into a U.S. school.
He went to the Caribbean and finished there and you know what he is called now?
Doctor

Girlfriend is an er nurse and she completely agrees with this. Looks like my close minded thinking is wrong. I have a business degree and it was a breeze so in no way do I think I'm more intelligent than anyone going to med school no matter where it's located. I just found it odd but I did not realize this was a common occurrence.

before you are treated, ask whatever doctor their step one and two scores. really important.
