Soon your car may be able to give you a lifesaving nudge before you fall asleep at the wheel.

Major auto makers are testing driver-monitoring systems that determine if a driver is too tired or distracted to drive safely, and the first such systems could be available next year.

This is the kind of thing that is starting to become bothersome to me. I understand that it's well intentioned and I realize there are serious problems in this arena, particularly with texting, but does anyone actually want this?

I'm starting to worry that the paradigm is now shifting from government intrusion via meta data collection of our personal records to just seemingly minor instances of tech-driven erosion of our personal freedom over time.

I always considered the automobile to be emblematic of how technology empowers us, and it was a very American concept. Now that we are pushing for autonomous vehicles, and even pushing for stuff like this, I think we may be going too far.

You know this technology is already in current cars correct? Mercedes, BMW, even GM vehicles all have this tech on their vehicles. I rented a new Tahoe LTZ for work a few weeks ago and the seat vibrated if it noticed you were changing lanes inadvertently. It also flashed a bright red light on the windshield if you needed to brake or it thought you were dozing off.

I have an idea. Why don't we keep loading our cars down with more and more technology that adds significant weight to our vehicles while simultaneously mandating higher MPG. Oh and it better behave like a tank if I get in a wreck.

I have this on my Mercedes sedan except I can't figure out how the hell it decides to bother me. I drive at weird hours and it doesn't say a word. Then it starts telling me that I appear tired and should I have it "search for a place to stop" when I am driving in noon day traffic to get lunch.

It makes me tell it NO by pushing a button. Which is distracting as hell by the way. Car needs to leave me alone but, of course, you can't disable the stupid system.

Would be he greatest technological advancement since the wheel if we can pull that off and have all highways and interstates fully automated. It would change every aspect of life in this country.

sounds like the car is in "nagging wife mode"...

Get it reprogrammed.

Or trade it any for a newer, sportier model.

The new F150s are 700lbs lighter have more technology than ever and get better gas mileage than previous year models.

Shhhhhh. Facts will just serve to upset the masses.

Better to let them live in squalor and ignorance.

It's my company car. Leased for tax purposes. Fully deductible and, honestly, I want my Suburban back. So not really a brag.

Counting the days until the lease is up. On my fourth windshield from dump trucks in the Baton Rouge area. Windshields in the damn thing are $1,500 a pop installed due to the traffic camera that apparently is what makes the "nagging wife mode" device work.

Until people start bitching because the vehicle will adhere to the speed limit when they are used to driving 90 down I-12.

Yep my new car is lighter and gets better mileage that the old one.
How did they do this.
Gas tank is smaller,
no spare tire,
rear seats no longer recline and
LOL
floor and trunk mats are no longer standard equipment.
Gotta love technology LMAO
