You will have just as pleasant of buying experience, if not better, if you walked into dealership and bought the vehicle at whatever price they give you when you ask them how much for the vehicle.
Yes and No. the major difference is Carmax won’t take complete advantage of screwing you when you go in and pay asking price. Any other dealership will continue adding shite once they see you will pay it. CarMax doesn’t. Of course you end up paying more than if you act like you’re in a middle eastern bizarre.

3rd party warranty, which is junk, or a manufacturer warranty, which is the only good warranty?
Carmax warranty. They fixed a lot of nitpicky stuff that happens with used cars.
Helps too to use a good sales rep to avoid the “transfer fees”. Get a guy that has worked there for a while that can find out if the car was from a smoker or has any weird quirks that wouldn’t be on the car fax

you will probably pay about 10% above market, but you will get the exact model/trim you are looking for. I found one in Denver, paid 500 to get it shipped to Austin, and completed the deal in 30 minutes. No haggle, no hassle .
This to me, besides the no haggle aspect- is the best part of going with Carmax .. if you are picky about vehicles, and if im dropping anywhere from $25k to $50k on anything, i am going to be picky- then you can search Carmax . Com and check their inventory all over the country.. for my most recent SUV that i bought in 2019, i wanted certain things (pano sunroof, rear view camera, leather seats) but didnt care about a lot of the other add-ons and didnt want to pay extra for them .. so i found a vehicle with exactly what i wanted, exact color combo etc in Dallas, it was 2 yrs old with 35k mi on the clock.. i bought a one way ticket from NOLA to pick it up (did all the paperwork online) and was in and out of the dealer and on the road back home within 30 minutes .. i dont like limiting myself to the choices just within the 100 mile geographic radius of home, so i love that the Carmax website makes all their vehicles across the nation available to anyone who’s willing to fly there .

It’s super easy
You hand select the exact car with everything you want in the vehicle and it shows up to a local car max store.
You look at it and like it, the buying process is a fairly simple process and no back and forth nonsense
