A locksmith will be cheaper, it happened to me a few years ago

Yep, went to a local locksmith when my son lost his only key. They came out, picked the lock and made a new key with the chip in it. (Truck won't run without the chip). $200... dealer wanted $600. Took about 5 min.

Will the amazon Keys actually work in the car?

There are different types of programmable keys.
From my own experience, the Amazon ones are hit or miss on being "programmable."

American Key & Lock on Sherwood sells them much cheaper than dealership.

I’ve used them a couple of times and the keys they made for me work. Both had to be programmed and worked great. Plus they have been in that spot in Sherwood for at least fifty years

The key has to be programmed to the car. Meaning key and car must be at the same place. Locally we have about mobile locksmiths that do this work. I’m sure there are plenty where you are.

Most likely a transponder key.

We don't allow those anymore.

Marty’s lock and arms in Hammond just programmed a new key for my jeep wrangler last week for $180 with the key included. Same thing the dealer wanted $500 to do. Good luck

There will be someplace that will sell you a key fob and program it for you.

For instance, Here around the B’ham area, there is a place that sells gadgets and stuff and they also sell key fobs. They will hook up to your ECU and program it for the new key. It’s half the cost of the dealer and the same result. I’ve had that done that for spare key fobs.

I lost my car key and the dealership is charging an arm and a leg for a new one.

dealers charge high prices because we call it the "idiot fee". We add $50 to the regular price of a key.
Why would anyone drive around without having a spare handy. I mean seriously, Could you not spare 10-15 minutes to have a spare made incase you lost a set?

People get keys off Amazon all the time and bring them to us to have cut and then programed. We charge $35 to cut the key and $150 to program. If we cannot get the key you bought of Amazon to program, you still pay the $150 and the $35 cut fee.

This worked for me and my Ram 1500.

I did have to get the door key cut.

They actually have places that will rent you the OBD tool and you can program it yourself for $75 plus whatever you pay for the key.

They were the cheapest and took care of me in 10 minutes.

Only 1 downvote and lots of help.
