I got an email from them about my daughter.

I don't know how they got her name or my email, but I now receive emails from CaptainU, saying a college coach has interest in her.

Granted, she doesn't even start high school until this fall. She plays competitive soccer and for her middle school. Her high school coach had been watching her for two years now, saying he cannot wait to coach her.

I know it's probably just a scam, wanting us to buy a membership.

Anyone here ever receive these emails or actually join?

If your daughter plays at a high level and excels and is good enough to play in college the colleges will find her. That is, unless you live in East Bumfrick, LA and rarely play outside of your little town.

Complete scam, although someone that has already paid up will disagree. These companies do nothing that you can't do for her.

CaptainU likely received your info from a tournament roster. Our daughter has played competitive for years and received a ton of CU notifications from schools all over the country. We dropped CaptainU when they started charging to view messages. Plus our daughter was offered after attending an ID camp so the service didnt have much of an impact anyway.

I’d classify these type of services as pointless, but “scam” is a bit harsh because they do actually provide the services they claim, you just don’t need to pay for it if you have an ounce of common sense on how to approach recruitment.

It certainly doesn't sound legit.

If she's good enough, you don't need these services.

Plus, back in my HS days, that's not necessarily where you get noticed. Certain schools just sucked and weren't competitive. It's not like that at the club level.

Ugh, we finished U12 today. Going to play with the U13 team in State Cup at the end of the month...so three more weeks of practice. Never ends.

This. If she is really good, I doubt coaches would be trying to contact you through CaptainU. I don't know how recruiting works for soccer, but I would think that coaches that have real interest would contact you on a more personal level. This company is probably just trying to grow it's database.

you obviously dont know how soccer recruiting works as coaches cant contact you on a personal level until your jr year of high school. most of the CU notifications are nothing more than generic camp invite eblasts.

They probably got your info from a tournament your child was in.

Really what you are paying for with those type of sites is a one stop shop for coaches’ emails. However, you could just go directly to a school’s site and email their coach if you want and not pay anything.

Regardless, with the new rules, all you are getting is camp invites until junior year.

My twin girls are also preparing to transition from middle school to highschool soccer.
I believe these 'recruiting/ID' camp gurus get names from competitive soccer tournaments.
The emails are almost daily lately.
It is a money grab.

I want my son to make (try out for) a regional/national team...way damn before college. Tough to get exposure from a small market though. Need to be on a team that does well regionally and the only one in our club is a year up. Will be a challenge for him to stand out on that one...but the journey starts tomorrow.

We signed up for CaptainU through our club. Most of the contacts from college coaches seem to be about summer camps run by these coaches.
