Don’t give them smartphones to begin with. They can’t handle it. TikTok and social media are cancer to their young minds

I mean if the are 30, probably not

I was thinking about getting my son a basic cell phone with just talk and text. He then tells me that all his friends from school does group FaceTime and you need a smartphone for FaceTime.

I mean, if a 7 year old wants to go I'm duty bound to oblige his request right?

This sounds like a fun TikTok challenge!

If you fear or have anxiety about the ramifications you are a shitty parent and there’s a good chance your kid is a POS by your making

Yall need to be better parents man. Kids under 16 don't deserve smartphones and it amazes me how many parents give their toddlers iphones. Pathetic

Not much.
I would just take it from them and that’s about it

Think about how stupid you were in your tween/teen years.
Now Imagine you had unfettered access (and let’s not pretend they won’t) to the depths of the internet, to video chats, instant pics…
It’s hard enough preparing them to fight the monsters, much less inviting the monsters in.

Yes. If he didn’t, the phone would be launched into the wall.

I still haven’t given him a cell phone. I didn’t get my first cell phone until senior year of high school in 2004.

My kid is 12 and has a phone so that he can call us when he needs picked up from band or scouting events. It's a cheap iPhone SE and it's locked down so he can only use a few apps and a couple games. It won't do anything after 10 except make emergency calls and he isn't allowed to have it in his room. He made that mistake once and lost it for a week. We haven't had any issues yet.
We set expectations with him and he knows I can review his usage and will exercise that privilege.
