I use to truck out 4x4 S10’s and Ford Rangers. My buddies and I swapped engines out, lift kits, etc.

The hobby gets expensive quick and wives don’t like these hobbies.

In my younger years I changed a 4th generation maxima from auto to manual in my garage. It was a massive headache but I felt like a boss every time I changed gears. I had 10 times the money invested in that car than it would ever be worth. It was actually worth less because people are rightly afraid to buy such a heavily modified car.

Not enough to offset the cost.

V-6 20 city / 28 highway
4-cyl Standard 25 city / 32 highway
4-cyl Automatic 23 city / 30 highway

@ $3.00/gallon lets assume you get 100,000 Miles out of the new engine car combo. You would save anywhere from about $714 to $1956 going with the automatic assuming you can get the EPA listed mileage numbers.

The Standard is higher $1340 to $3000. Marginal at best I suspect.

Not even taking present value into account, I don't see that being a money saver unless you need to replace the engine anyway. Or just looking for a project.

The V6 was only worse on gas with just a driver, if you added passengers those 4 cylinders would usually go to shite. Or at least worse than the V6.

This is throwing money away anyway Op. I’d do the V6 and be happy with it.

Hell you could buy a 4 banger for cheaper than what it would cost you to modify a 6 for.

You can put any engine in any car, it's just how much work and money are you willing to put into it?

Generally when a car has two engine types in the same body it's easier to swap.

You will need the entire PCM and wiring harness. You will need the engine and transaxle. You shouldn't need to weld anything, but you will need new mounts and there will probably be a few kinks. The easiest way to do a swap is to have a donor car so everything is right there.

Just most people don't go down in power they go up.

Why not just gamble the money away? At least you'd have a shot at making a return on investment. I don't know this post just baffles me. It's not like you are fixing up a classic.

I think my talents are worth a million dollars but market says it isn't going to pay me that.
