Half of the students in St George would be black.
This would still depend on who enters the schools. You already have kids in this proposed are attending magnet/gifted schools in BR or attending private schools, so the demographics of schools will likely be close to matching the demographics of the proposed city.

For far too long middle class families in BR or unincorporated EBRP have had 3 choices:
1. Apply and hope you get lucky admission to a magnet school.
2. Send your kid to a crappy "regular" school.
3. Pay private school tuition.
A strong community can never be built on those 3 choices. St.George stands to change this.

No you don't, and there's no guarantee that them becoming a city would result in them getting their new school district. The fact that they aren't their own city was one of the reasons that they were denied initially, but it's not a sure thing that they'll get an independent district if the city is formed and it's not impossible that they might get an independent district in the future even without forming a city.
In theory you may be correct, but...yeah, they tried to get their own ISD and basically it came down to them needing to do this to get that.
And if they get the city it is pretty much a done deal that they'd get the schools.

Nobody finds it curious that the leader of the St. George movement is:
- a political consultant that runs in the same circles as BR state politicians.
- within a month of starting to fight for St. George he forms a LLC AND lands a shady no-bid state contract with the Dept of education, who has a vested interest in taking over EBR schools.
- doesn't even live in "St. George"?
I'm telling you guys, there's more than meets the eye with this controversy. It still annoys me when St George supporters are called racists, though.

Apparently the SG incorporation leaders don't know it.
They have a statement on their website which says no additional taxes will be needed for a new city or for a new school district.

Seriously not trolling. Just ignorant on the issue.
I gotcha.
Interesting thing is I don't remember there being this kind of opposition when Central & Zachary did the same thing.

I get that people question Rainey, but at the end of the day he is a volunteer spokesman. He doesn't make any decisions, and he has no clout within the strategy stuff. Norman Browning, Dustin Yates, and Josh Hoffpauir are the decision makers and leaders. Rainey just relieves them of PR duties.

State Legislature said no and so they said "fine" we'll create our own city. The problem with this is that it has become far more than just about the schools and about a model for government based off some very strange math and support.
I am 100% in support of a St. George ISD, just not in the manner they are going about this now. And yes, I know the issues with the legislature.

I was disappointed with the town hall footage they showed from Woodlawn baptist. I saw a bunch of business owners and jcba reps, as well as a fireman. I wish some parents would have stood up and spoken for the middle class.
Also, I didn't think the black family they chose was representative of public school parents. If all parents were like her, we wouldn't be in this predicament.

the entire thing has become a clown show.
just like the BR loop, that has been talked about for 30 years, if this is not voted on in Nov, it will fade away

You were duped. Attempting to form a new city has all but guaranteed that the new school district will never happen. The campaign tactics for a new city are divisive and now people in Baton Rouge are never going to vote for the new school district. Anything from here on out has to be done from within EBRSS.
Not that it matters because its really a branding issue. Desegregation has ended so the schools are already becoming "local schools for local children".

Central is so small and has been known as "Central" for so long that it deserved to be designated its own city. That's why I supported it.
"St George" is a fabricated "city" that would be larger in area than Baton Rouge. It would cut the parish in half between two cities.

isn't just a matter which liars you choose to support? you don't think the BR side is being truthful do you?
