I think most of them do, but their kids just suck. They compensate for that by making up a ton of stuff, that isn't true as to why they are so much smarter for not doing it.

See Sadvocates post above. 100% of that is false for 99.9% of kids playing travel ball.

FIFY btw. My son played. We saw it all firsthand. It was absolutely nothing like that.

You have to find some balance. My daughter is 10 and made one of the better teams around, she starts infield, and pulls her weight hitting.

This team does more travel than we are used to, multiple out of state trips. Money isn't an issue, but it's also not what I want to spend that money on. It does add a ton of pressure to our kid (not from us) to perform. I've had my baseball career, I work with my kid when she wants to work and I'm definitely not one to yell at her over softball.

Really considering dialing back to a lessor team that travels less to make it more about fun than beating some team from Michigan then getting smoked by the Bolts who live in our backyard.

This isn't the 80s anymore, most coaches are doing a far better job of managing arms. When my son played, the coaches had a 70 pitch daily max and not over 100 for the weekend. That's not to say there weren't some coaches burning that one kid who can pitch, but in travel ball we saw far less of that than when we played rec teams as more kids can pitch in travel ball (every kids wants to be a pitcher). 11 of the 13 played high school ball and 3 of them went on to play in college. Zero injuries other than a collision at second that gave one kid a concussion. Admittedly we weren't one of the traction/marucci teams travelling all over hell's half acre but all our kids seemed to enjoy it (except for the 8am games) and have fond memories of their time playing. For whatever that's worth...

Yall going to Ward 9 in Pineville?

I run there, so I'm conflicted. On one hand it's nice to see people out and about. On the other hand yall take up all the fricking parking and then sometimes don't stop at the crosswalks when leaving the park.

Co worker has daughters playing travel soccer. He travels anywhere between Texas and Florida every weekend for games.

I’m guessing between the 10-12 million people in the Houston area, there’s not enough girls to get a local soccer game together? :eyeroll:

It’s money well spent tho. Keeps her off the heroin and sucking dick for a high. Apparently that’s the only other option outside of travel girls soccer.

Travel ball somewhat made sense when it was the best in an area. In true American fashion though everyone has to be included and now we’re completely destroying local leagues over it…

It's a massive waste of time and money, where kids get meaningless rings when they win meaningless tournaments on weekends.

What does that have to do with what the other poster said ?

It’s just an observation regarding travel ball.

One of them we played at Ward 9. The other was overflowed to a park that was in Alexandria. I can't think of the name of it.

Out of all the parks I've been to Ward 9 is probably my favorite one. Nice set up they have there. My one complaint is that there is no damn cell service.

100% correct but the travel ball culture will argue that it’s their only option to get their son noticed by colleges which is patently false. Travel ball is a relatively new concept within the last 30 years or so at this popularity, it’s nothing more than an expensive excuse to play in meaningless tournaments against other members of the travel ball cult. Players get burned out and parents beg for money on the side of the road, who doesn’t love that?

Having kids focus on one sport is a bigger issue.

No matter how many sports he plays your kid isn’t going to be Tyrann Mathieu…that is simply genetics. Playing one sport at an early age helps normal kids excel and gain tons of confidence. My son played one sport until Jr High and he ended up getting 9 varsity letters, one in the sport he played. Quit that one after his freshman year to do other stuff. So play a bunch of sports poorly while young, or get some fight in you early playing very good competition then let that carry you.

Just an opinion though, works different for every parent.

As opposed to doing what? There are about a billion other things I could think of for 8-16 year old kids than playing baseball or softball, that are also huge waste of time.

That’s because travel ball destroyed local rec teams and priced out lower income players who would have otherwise played in the past. Now they play other sports or none at all. Congrats on destroying baseball!

Letting them play other sports, go to the beach, go to the lake with them. Teaching them a trade. There's a ton of other things ngs they could be doing than a slave to a sport ten months out of the year.

At your every weekend travel ball tournament, yeah it's false. High level showcase ball is absolutely the best place to get noticed by scouts though. It's not even debatable.

Letting them play other sports

I think of the 12 kids on my kids team, all 12 play at least one other sport. I tried to get mine into basketball, but she doesn't want. She's going to do track and softball, but that's by her choosing. A bunch of the others play volleyball and basketball. It's yet another false narrative that all of these kids are just playing one sport.
