sounds like a national team

don't know... i know they are based here in Prairieville, but yeah, what league, couldn't tell you...

but even in my experience with my daughter's travel basketball team, which was for a lower level travel ball team, there were mom's on the other team, in the middle of the game, telling their kids to go after our best player's legs, and to basically slam into her when would dribble the ball right after crossing half court... and they were a 10U team... it's nuts, bro

There are parks that are getting to a hybrid type option where they are doing travel teams that play in outside tournaments. Adapt or die.
I’ve been advocating for this. Modify the rec season and let the more advanced kids go and represent the league in travel tournaments. Could charge a buck at the gate and pay for uniforms and tournaments

You see All Stars teams become travel teams almost every year

It wouldn’t take much creativity to make it work. And it keeps rec leagues alive and more competitive

also the older they are..calmer the parents usually
as a 55 year old Dad I can attest to this, it’s hard to keep us awake. Or aimlessly walking around the park watching ball and visiting w folks you’ve met over the years. As a rule, the less team gear you wear and the greyer the beard, the more calm.

Rec leagues are a sad state in BR. If your kid is 9 and can catch a ball in his glove 5 times in a row you are too advanced for rec. we didn’t want to do travel ball but really didn’t have a choice.

I understand the frustration. Regrettably it’s a cycle that can’t be broken right now. When better players leave each year there only leaves a few good players per team.

The higher level kids seem to enjoy all star play, so if leagues could find a way to reward last years all stars as this years league showcase team, maybe they could play rec longer. Shorten the rec game schedule a touch, do more instructional type competition, clinics, etc to help weaker players versus sitting bench in games? I don’t know the answer. But

Well I don't know about todays world, but I doubt your kids would be able to handle rec ball back in the day.

You come off as one of those parents whose kids couldn't make it on one travel team so you started your own travel team where you do to other kids what another team did to your kid.

I have nephews in "travel ball". I was going by what they do. They play on a team that has a tournament every weekend (well they don't play every weekend, they have off after so many weeks).

Every weekend when they play, the winner of the tournament they play in gets rings. So I was basing what I said around that. I know there is also class ball (AA, AAA)..

But are you telling me there are no travel teams that was created because someone's kid didn't make another team? It happens.. Well, I know of a travel ball situation that resulted in this, but what have I said that I didn't know what I was talking about?

And your kids wouldn't be able to handle playing in rec ball back in the day (before travel ball took over).

this part...and the part where you said i sound like the dad who starts his own team...you know nothing about my kids nor me and have zero clue wtf you are talking about on that front

of course...even at the majors level it happens. People are not always goign to agree. Happens a lot more at the lower levels though

of course but your nephew doesnt play every week, prolly just seems that away. prolly play every other mid feb thru june. or 2 weeks on, 1-2 off

im in my 40s, i played rec ball and played through HS at a decent program....my kids would be the best player in those leagues and our all star teams would get destroyed by the good teams today, run ruled by the 3rd.

Like little league & dixie of today....we didnt even play real baseball until 13. was always no leads and little bitty arse fields. 8 years olds play on LL size fields now.

you have talked about your nephews team before and how they arent that good etc...dont confuse that with the good teams

tell you what...bunch of really good 10u teams play this weekend at revault park in port allen. go watch...you will see 10 year olds throwing 60-65. at the same park there will be 13aa....go look at those and compare...the 10s will be as skilled or more skilled than the 13aa kids and throwing just as hard or harder.

then you will understand there are levels to this and just because your nephews play travel...doesnt mean travel is shite.

It just isn't going to work.

well that settles it then... if you don't have the money, resources, and time to play travel ball, in whatever sport, you might as well give the frick up now, correct?

this is what we did and what they do in Biddy Basketball... you play a rec league schedule, at the end of the season, they pick the best kids from the league for an All-Star team, and they travel relatively locally, then work their way up the ladder as they win, or their season is over if they lose and don't qualify for regionals, semis, and world championships... yes, world, b/c Biddy is big in the Scandinavian countries as well, apparently

of course. The kids wanted to play. Didn’t make the team. Others didn’t make it. They form a team. They play baseball. It isn’t this big hate fest.

do you really think that is a recipe for development and is going to get a kid ready for HS ball? your kids do travel swim and play other sports...so why are you complaining others do travel baseball but play other sports?

Who’s complaining my man? Relax. Making a point is all. We do swim club bc that’s our only option. As far as rec ball getting kids ready for HS ball, my two oldest kids played rec ball and progressed to hs baseball/softball as starters with no problem. My oldest daughter did the same with volleyball and holds the record for most points scored in a season at her school.

My way may not be the best way but it worked for us. By no means is there an absolute recipe for success as I’ve seen tons of kids pay to play in 14u and not make the hs team.
