I can give you the curve ball argument. I was referring to the overall innings placed on the kids. They are playing 9 months out of the year vs old school of playing in local leagues for 3 months. I worded my post incorrectly

you sure thats it?
yeah, i'm sure...

is it you are upper middle class and live in a school district that has a really good HS program and are surrounded by kids that like baseball and want to play for said program?
what does travel ball have to do with playing for the HS team? it's not a pre-requisite to making the HS team... can said players not play in local leagues, practice on their own, etc. and still make the HS team?
quote:
allow them to do what they like and play the sport they love at with better competition...
look, i don't give a flying frick, really, one way or the other... kid wants to play travel ball, cool... they don't, cool... makes me no difference what they and the parents decide to do... but to act like there aren't some parents that don't "live vicariously through their children to make up for the dreams that never panned out in their lives" is just plain intellectually dishonest... there are PLENTY of parents that get way too amped up when little Johnny doesn't play enough to their liking, or a call goes the "wrong way", etc.... THESE parents are who we are referencing, and you KNOW there are many like this, don't act like there aren't...

.bring you kids to the duck camp and get hammered drunk and drive around with them in the car drunk.....good ole south la fun.....
i know you don't mean me specifically, b/c well, you don't know me from Adam, but i don't hunt, nor do drink, so yeah, ain't me, chief...

that has come a long ways. most arent playing 9 months and most injuries happen early in the season, not from over use but improper onboarding and too much too soon. very very few teams play 9 months though outside of the houston and atlanta areas and patches in Cali
but most orgs have strict pitch counts that rely on gamechanger/diamondkast so no fudging the numbers and some use pitchsmart guidelines.
especially now with the motus sleeve and the armcare.com device...its better than ever
plus most coaches, atleast good ones monitor innnings and try to keep it at 50 or below. 100 is the threshhold that shows injury spike.
now kids picking up and playing on 18 different teams, pitching for rec during the week etc...well thats on the dumbass parents. not much you can do to prevent dumbass parents from being dumbasses

sure there are...but yall act like everyone is. most parents just want their kids to have fun and they want to support them while they chase their dreams. Its pretty rare parents living through their kids. and posting updates on facebook doesnt mean they are either, just means they are proud of their kid.

yea for sure didnt mean you...just the ot in general
to answer your question....the talent level at the big schools that are really good like say the AP schools, Live Oak, Catholic in the BR area is better than it has ever been. Its almost impossible to make those teams if you didnt play high level travel, much less not at all. you will have 40-50 kids tryout and they keep 10-12.
its stupid competitive. Is it possible to practice on your own and make it....yea if you have had somebody really good training you, you are bigger/stronger than others and are just a better overall athlete...but there arent many of those.
I can promise...you are not making Catholics team without playing travel. same for live oak/central right now. same with the good nola schools, lafayette, LC, WM etc.
its just how it is now.

gate fee is usually how the director makes their money
The park where it's beign played isn't collecting the gate fee, neither are the guys in charge of Canes or Knights or Leopardawgs or Lugnuts. PG/USSSA/2D/OTC are collecting it, and they aren't giving it back to the park. It goes to that organization, or to charity.
ANd it's ridiculous that parents have to pay $48 a weekend to watch their kid play a stupid arse baseball game, on top of the $2k they already spent to play.
Youth sports should not be a business where you make money, and that's exactly what PG/USSSA/2D/OTC are. And it's no different in basketball and soccer. Making money comes first over developement of youth players, and i'm sure its' the same with competitive cheer/dance.
Doesn't work that way in Europe with soccer and basketball. They focus on actual development of youth players as opposed to making money off of them. They'll make money off of them when they get older, if they develop them to be good enough.

At a MUCH lower and almost nonexistent rate. That’s objective data

you mean in soccer where kids are shipped to academies?
you sure you want to go the academy model where kids are plucked at 10-12 and paid and signed to contracts to clubs?

it does in Farragut, these parents travel coast to coast to play in "world series".
Reading is hard. He said they play in 30 World Series, which is false. Not even close
Like I said. People just take the worst parts about travel ball, add to them, and then exaggerate the frick out of it and then the majority of you idiots believe it then run with it.
If you know of a travel team that played in 30 World Series in a season, then show me. I’ll Venmo you $100

I never said that, but as I’ve said numerous times, you’re a fricking moron so you can’t understand what I’m saying.

Certainly better than you and you’re trashy arse shite. Again, you’re fricking stupid so you won’t, but a normal person would look back at what you’re doing in 20 years and wouldn’t believe how idiotic they were acting

You (and a lot of other people in this thread) have no issue making retarded assumptions about the travel ball scene, so expect the same shite right back

Need to get the TJ early so they go from throwing 90 to 100 and get drafted.

good luck with that.
talent is talent... i've never heard a guy going out for a team and not making the team b/c the coach said he didn't pay travel ball, as the reason he didn't make the team... either you are good enough, travel ball aside, or not... pretty simple really... travel ball doesn't make or break it for everyone... again, talent is talent...
quote:
yall act like everyone is
i know not everyone is... there are some that are legit just happy to have their kid involved in something... but there are some, i've come across some in the travel basketball and volleyball circuits, that are just way too much... and that shite takes a toll on the kids too, man... sucks, but yeah...
quote:
yea for sure didnt mean you...just the ot in general
i know you didn't... overall, you seem like a good dude, i've never had a problem with you...

fwiw, i fricking HATE baseball.. its the most boring shite on earth, and i'd fricking die if my kid does want to play... granted, he's supposed to be around 6'5" when he finishes growing, so i'd be good to have him in that, especially being left handed and all, but good god, if there's ANY other sport that he wants to do, i'd gladly accept that vs. baseball...

I genuinely don’t understand that irrational hate that travel ball gets from everybody. Is it everybody’s cup of tea? No, it isn’t, and it doesn’t have to be.
People just take the bad stereotypes, exaggerate them, then run with it like it’s gospel. Are there bad eggs? Sure. But are there coaches and organizations out there who go about things the right way, putting the kids and their development (on and off the field) first? Absolutely. Sorry that you haven’t found the right fit yet. And if you’re not involved in the scene in any way, shape, or form, you should probably just shut your mouth (that’s not directed at you 777)
