Can someone answer my COVID-19 testing question?

I saw today that the CDC has only conducted 77 tests this week. There are test kit shortages all over. Yet, I saw a private lab in Birmingham that is conducting drive through tests and can do 10,000 per week. So I’m confused, is there a shortage of tests or not? Do the private labs have enough because they develop their own test kits?

Maybe this clinic is saying they can test 10,000 kits per week, if there are that many kits?

It’s just confusing.

The number of tests the Cdc is conducting isn’t important at this point

Thousands of the tests are being distributed to non-CDc labs

So are all test kits from the government and the private labs just analyze them? Or do the private labs develop their own test kits?

I hope we at least learn from this, massively beef up CDC funding, and prepare ourselves for future outbreaks and pandemics. I’m for small government but I do see this as a place for them

CDC's funding isn't the issue. Their bureaucratic creep in to other areas outside of their core function to justify increased budgets is.

It was already an issue with SARS and Ebola back in 2014. It's only gotten worse, and nothing has changed within the organization.

Test are done local... that's where presumptive positive comes from

When a test is presumptive positive, they send it to the CDC for analysis and if it is positive on their end, it becomes a confirmed case

The honest answer which many will downvote is because the WHO developed a test which the Us Government said no thanks to. They wanted to develop their own test for who knows what reason. So at the Presidents direction the CDC is developing it own test and failing at it. Meanwhile, private labs are using WHO tests or a private likeness. I support Trump on a lot of stuff but this is hard to not see the error of judgement and preparedness.

Edit: CDC isn’t necessarily failing at it, but they are significantly behind on how far along they should be which is why there is a shortage of tests. So failing, no. Struggling is probably a better word.

The government should spend massive amounts of money promoting genetic engineering to find solutions to these types of issues.

You are correct. At least, that's what they're claiming. 2 hour results.
