It's because the print run was very limited, the SR-71 is such a legendary aircraft with passionate fans, and this is one of the few (if not only) books with first hand accounts written by a guy who rode the nose of that beast. Aviation is a very expensive hobby and those fans have the money to drive the price of one of these books up when it becomes available.

Yet it DOES provide some insight as to why, which is what he asked. Perhaps he should have asked a better question.
