45 seems like it would be a very good day. I should have 50-55 for downtown, an hour for whatever you call that complex by the AIG building.

It’s a longer road but a faster drive than the Southwest suburbs (Missouri City, Sugar Land).

I used to live in Nassau Bay and recommend that neighborhood. You could be in League City in 15 minutes if that’s where your work is.

I lived in that area a while back.

League City's not bad, at all. But I think Friendswood is a nicer suburb.

Seabrook, Kemah, and Nassau Bay have some really nice neighborhoods on Clear Lake.

I had to be on Broadway Ave by 6AM at the latest to make it that quickly, at least 10-15 years ago. Cannot imagine the traffic has gotten better since then.

Cheap housing No real crime Great schools Tons of upper middle class Great golf Close to Galveston and kemah Close to great fishing Tons of restaurants Close enough to the city Traffic can get bad cookie cutter Typical suburb

All of this with an extra emphasis on the traffic.

I avoid the hell out of that area around rush hour. Hopefully the I-45 project will be done in a couple of years and it will be happy travels once you get on the interstate. But 518, 646 and 96 are all very congested because of so many new subdivisions going in.

Stay clear of the Dickinson (area around Hwy 3) it's da hood.

And La Marque. And Texas City.

Not sure what OP's family situation, budget, or goals are, but Tiki Island is a pretty sweet place.

Yea. Friendswood and clearlake are also great places.

But watch the school districts. They can be funky and you will end up in some place like the Dickerson school district while living somewhere else.

I actually love the area south of Houston in general and think it's a great place and I would move there in a heart beat if family situation allowed.

Yes, good point!!

We lived in League City years ago but were in Dickinson ISD (still way better than a La school district, but not on par with others in the immediate area).

If you have kids be sure to get into Clear Creek ISD or Friendswood ISD.

Most of the posters here have it right. I personally don't really like the area that much (inner loop snob). But it's better than Metairie/Kenner.

No way in hell anyone is getting from Galveston to downtown in 45 minutes - maybe at 3 a.m. I worked in Clear Lake for years and lived in the Heights and it's a 35 minute drive with no traffic. There's always traffic and Galveston is at least 15 more minutes south.

Damn near every major road in the area is under construction but other than that it's a pretty good suburban area. Good schools, lot of weekend activities/events, good fishing in the area. Just a ton of traffic right now

Not too bad, I’m about 5 minutes north. Same scenario as the rest of the area. Build and build and build. Replace the trees and grass with concrete and no one seems to know why places flood so bad?.....

Just move to Mont Belvieu. 45 min drive to League City. Best schools in the state in Mont Belvieu.

I'd be really curious to hear in what respect League City, TX is better than Metairie.

What part of league city? Old league city is awesome. Rest of it is just strip malls. West of 45 can get pretty ghetto.

The town next door, Clear lake shores is badass and on the water. I’d move there If you can afford it. They have a very festive time. Lotta LSU folks live in the area.

Just buy a house high off the ground.
