Second most shocking part of that video is how well the houses and other structures other than the levees withstood the force of the eyewall. Video starts at 829 am and St. Bernard had the eyewall over them for 2 hours before the breach. Just some shingles and gutter damage

Jeez that was really hard to watch. At least when it happened here it was slow enough to where we could save some things and get out safely. I can’t imagine what they had to go through.

I'm not sure the wind was really that horrible there.
What's real sad is how the older houses in Lakeview near the canal and especially in the 9th ward basically were knocked down the street or torn to pieces by the force of the water.
The the freaking surge and wind just fcked everything up on the western Ms coast.

I understand people who are from New Orleans who wants to stay and loves it but I can’t live in a city that is under sea level. Another Katrina can happen again.

That video is still surreal after watching it for the 3rd or 4th time. The narrator is pretty damn calm in that situation.

Most cities are at or below sea level

What I remeber most was eating lunch at Hooters with the boss on Friday. Talking about the storm like it was yet another false alarm (up till then when had a few of those).
We all parted ways and never saw each other again after that lunch.
That's how disruptive that storm was.
Just insanity.
I also remember seeing the first images from "New Orleans" and saying "that's Kenner, not Nola... Oh shite, there's my house. Wait why is the roof brown now. "
They were showing a tornado path. I got hit dead on. Not a bit of flooding, second floor ceiling and attic caved in.

With the repairs to the levees can it withstand a category 3 hurricane or will other parts of the levees give out like in 2005.
