Can any OT pool owners tell me about misters?

Do you use a pool mister to cool down your pool? How well do they work? My pool has been getting pretty hot lately. It's a salt water, 12000 gallon fwiw.

My builder install 2 aerator's when he built my pool. 18,000 gal salt water - run them at night when the pool water gets hot and it will cool down the entire pool significantly.
If you don't have those on your pool - you can go buy a aerator fountain and put in the middle of your pool to do the same thing.

and they help some. With a combination of running the pump a few hours in the middle of the night the difference in notable.

Someone was telling me about these this weekend. It was the first I had heard of them.
Since it's been so terribly hot without raining, I'm losing a good bit of water to evaporation, so I've been having to run my auto fill valve (I turn it on manually with a ball valve). The source water has been very cool, and after about 20-30 minutes, the pool is noticeably cooler.

I have an energy efficient pump so it runs 24/7. I found some misters that help prevent evaporation and heating of the pool for about 100 bucks. I'll give em a try. Thanks for the input.

What's your temp? it was 90 degrees in my 28000 gallon pool. I've been wondering if it actually stays cooler than the smaller pools.

Luckily our pool stays cool for the most part. I was looking into buying a heater for it. Any suggestions on that would be appreciated also.

The answer to your problems pool cooler It will drop the temp of your pool 8-10 degrees overnight. I have a pool with dark plaster and it works wonders.

My home-made misters (more like fountains) cool my pool 4 degrees F, consistently. I run my pump 24/7.
You can buy a smaller version of the one I made at Pinch-a-penny. Or you can pinch more penny and get more cooling.
It's pretty simple stuff. Unscrew the eyeball looking nozzle from your return(s). Take it to hardware store and get the same threaded connection, with an adapter to whatever size pvc. Get you a valve so that you can adjust the height, etc. My pieces aren't even glued.

Does that set up put any additional stresses on your pool pump by restricting the water flow back into the pool? I see you can adjust it with the valve so some water goes straight into the pool...but how do you know if you are actually damaging your pump or not?

4 degrees takes my pool from 96 to 92 (usually), which is the difference between swimmable and not. Not that 92 is great either, but bearable. To me, 96 is not. These are the highest temps I've seen in my pool.
I've been running it for 4-5 years with seemingly no adverse effects to my pump.
My pump is variable speed and I run it at about 50% if I recall correctly.
I think being able to use my pool is worth some wear and tear on the pump, but I'm not sure that happens, but valid question.

I hear ya. My pool was 92 degrees on Sunday and I found that to be borderline too hot. A friend of mine was in the pool and asked me if I considered one of those 2 or 3 tiered fountains (they run like $25). I looked into it yesterday and saw a few people do exactly what you are doing. So...it's worth a shot!
With the water running at 96, are you having a hard time keeping chlorine in the pool and algae out?

I supplement my SWG with a chlorine tab when the weather is extremely hot.
That, or run the pump way more.

Would do absolutely nothing. I dumped 6 very large ice chests full of ice in my pool Saturday morning and it cooled it 3 degrees after it finished circulating. It went from 94-91.
