I was at a cookout on Sunday and wondered if aluminum foil can keep food from being burned on the grill why can’t it be used to protect the human body in a fire emergency.

Aluminium is way too good of a conductor to be used as a "fire-resistant" material.

Ignore these naysayers, OP. We all know there is only one way to find out.

Aluminized suits are used in molten operations all the time for splash protection. That have intense insulation on the inside though for the thermal conductivity.

I’m not hanging around waiting to get scorched. I’m running through the flames to safety.

Proximity gear for radiant heat has essentially aluminum foil as the outer layer. It won't function (well) alone but it is an excellent IR reflector.
