That’s an interesting route. Did her accounting/CPA experience help her get into banking?

Similar background here. LSUCIA > Big4 Houston for 8yr > Moved to Nola > Switched jobs

My observations fwiw:
- Switching out of IA and technical acct and into process/tech consulting was the right move despite getting the CPA.
- Compared to big cities, there are very few good pure accounting track jobs here in Nola available to “external candidates” like you.
- Once you commit to a job in Nola, growth and pace will slow. This might be good for you, but know it will be very hard to get back into to rat race if you leave it.

Reco:
- go remote
- switch to fp&a. It’s a gateway to table you say you want to sit at that doesn’t require and MBA, CPA, or Daddy’s network, and it doesn’t sound like you love acct.
- don’t rule out sales. Good money and fintechs hire ex-auditor and consultants because they’re gritty and understand the acct/fin domain. I was scared at first, but I’m happy to bet on myself now.

Good topic friend, good luck… LSUCIA is the goat.

Sumners screwed a lot of people, according to my ex wife, with his "selection" system for employer bids (or whatever the hell he did.)

Summers opened doors more than screwing people over. It’s competitive. Iron sharpens iron. The ones that got screwed probably just aren’t good enough.

I'm an Internal Audit manager in Nola. We'll prolly be looking for a senior auditor in the next 5 or 6 months. There isn't a ton of great jobs here, but there is a lot of remote roles in audit where you can live anywhere (including New Orleans).

Ask your wife how he screwed anyone over. He did more than anyone that I encountered at LSU to get students jobs. The LSU CIA draft process brought in a countless number of companies to drop your resume with. I was able to interview with all the big 4 and another firm, got an internship, and a full time offer at the end of it.

There were lots of other opportunities throughout the year that were provided. Companies would visit and you could meet with and potentially earn an interview. Also, being able to put the LSU CIA program on your resume was a very big deal.

It takes 90 minutes a day and a couple hours on each weekend day.

And you can probably even do it with less time studying. The CPA Exam is a marathon, not a sprint, and basically a test of your will. The 30 month credit window makes it even easier to take your time now, too.

I passed all 4 parts without giving up much of my life at all. With this nonchalant strategy, I did have to take some parts multiple times, though, lol.

Either way, you’re still a CPA at the end, whether you pass all parts on 1st try or take multiple tries.

I wouldn’t recommend taking your time if you don’t have to, but it’s definitely doable.

AUD - Passed on 1st attempt; credit lapsed after 18 months and passed again on 2nd.

FAR - Passed on 1st attempt

BEC - Passed on 2nd attempt. Took FAR and BEC in same window on 1st try, with BEC being a week after my bachelor party and 2 days before my wedding. Got a 73 and then passed on 2nd attempt.

REG - Took 3 tries; I got a 74 on 2nd attempt and AUD credit expired in same window. I went from thinking I would be completely done to having to take REG and AUD again.

You may not have liked the process, but he definitely did not screw anyone over with the draft process.

When I went through the program, you were able to sign up for as many interviews as you thought you could handle for the main draft (I did 5 in one day) and got a great internship from it.

Sumners was then bringing in companies pretty much weekly after the initial draft for all of those students that didn’t get an internship from the initial run.

It was one of the best run programs I was a part of in my time at LSU and they were going above and beyond trying to get each student a Summer internship.

Definitely. She was Poli sci undergrad at LSU and got her MBA at LSU and did the IA program during her MBA stint.

That’s interesting. What kind of work exactly do you do now?

Enterprise sales for a fintech company. Requires some travel, but its good trade off when you’re WFH.
