have done a lot of volunteer work over the years, the more organized a group gets, it always seems to gravitate to this, terrible chief to indian ratio, and gets to be a bit nauseating, I just move on to the next project

While we don't want to see an event that will likely have a big impact on many people, anyone at least feel good for KB? This could be another opportunity for her to create an Amazon wish list, filled with a bunch of specific items that isn't normally requested when collecting supplies for hurricane victims. She is an innovator, when it comes to thinking of items to give people in need.

This! The folks that "run" the "Cajun Navy" now co-opted a media buzz word for people helping people how they could.

Any official "Cajun Navy" ain't the cajun navy.

I agree with you on everything but this.

The biggest issues I see with the "cajun navy" is alot of them went freelancing. All the manpower is great but not coordinating with the first responders and officials is a recipe for disaster.

Go out on your own end up in a bad spot now your another victim that needs to be found and rescued, get shot and no one knows you were there.

There is a command structure in first response for a reason, and its accountability. That way no one ends up missing.

As responders we are always taught, you can't rescue someone if you become a victim. Priority 1 is your own safety

TigerDat, That's exactly what first responders do. We ain't first responders so don't get it twisted. And don't want to be. We govern our own and help who we want to not who we are told too. That was the back bone of the start of the Cajun Navy....not so much so more. We keep in touch by radio and phone with who we want to affiliate with in small groups of trusted friends and neighbors. Its obvious when we roll up no one is gonna shoot at us. But if they did we ready for dat too. One rule leave no one behind and never go alone. While you are getting ready to "respond" we probably already been there to help.

Yeh, everyone just sit around waiting on the first responders instead of doing something on your own.

Not missing, but dead.

Make sure the victims take pictures with the guys who rescue them for their Facebook page so they get attention.

Do you only get to call yourself "captain" if you're a river pilot whose only qualification was being the lucky sperm?

I can see your point here, but no instagram model got people out in boats to help people during a flood.
