If it becomes normal enough someone doesn't have to live a lie out of fear of just being shite on non stop because of how they want to live then last night was a step in right direction, and her being one of the first public figures to do so is taking all of america homophobic hate and directing it towards her today...shes taking a ton of shite so it will be easier for people down the road. Ya she had a room full of people last night clap for her..but read her threads...that's the majority of how people feel about her..and thats brave to take on no matter the motives
I'm fine with people thinking she didn't deserve it. Its just the it takes 0 courage people that make me smh. No matte how much money you have you will eventually read what people are saying about you..and you're still human and still want that love and not people ridiculing you for your lifestyle. People throw out the suicide number but how much is that number as high as it is because people constantly belittle the person who tries to live how they want and eventually can't take the bullying anymore? I'm sure that has something to do with it more than the theory of "figs are sick and cant help but kill themselves"

You know the context is fundamentally different. Usually it's not a celebration of the mental illness, but a celebration of overcoming the obstacles that come from it.
In this circumstance, the only "obstacle" is coping with society's reaction to it, not fighting through the difficulties associated with a disability to achieve a goal. The main premise is obviously to push an agenda.

People are hating on him because he's attention whoring in a sense. Reportedly, this award was orchestrated by his "people" and senior level people at ESPN.
No one should ever apologize for feeling disgusted by the concept. There are certain elements deeply embedded in human civilization, and the idea that this should be considered mainstream is an affront to that.
