Café Giovanni closes after 26 years; chef cites changing industry, French Quarter

Cafe Giovanni, a fine dining fixture in the French Quarter for more than a quarter century, has closed.
Chef and proprietor Duke LoCicero said the decision was a wrenching one, but in the end he felt that “changing times” compelled him to change too.
“There are so many restaurants in New Orleans now and there’s been so much change in the French Quarter,” LoCicero said.
But businesses across the city's most famous neighborhood have lately had to contend with high profile street crime and with the disruption of slow-going road work on Bourbon Street.

I heard he stopped valet parking and free bread. That'll hurt any business.

Don't need a thread for this. The juggalos in Jackson Square have already had their AM bowel movement.

Too many restaurants in Nola and this place was pretty average. Not surprised

I've never even heard of this place.
Galatoire's, Antoine's, Arnaud's, Brennan's, The Rib Room, etc, etc, etc, seem to be doing just fine in the "fine dining" genre. Perhaps this guys product couldn't keep up.

Yeah because giving away free shite is the way to make money.

Melvin at Galatoire's told me last week that this is the worst summer for them in 30 years. The only day its crowded is on Friday afternoon and once it gets dark its a ghost town in the restaurant.

The guy has failed to innovate. Look at that plate presentation. That's some circa 1994 shite right there.

Restaurants are everywhere. Not a business I would want to be in.
