Any experience with Gruvenparts? Looks like they have a unit you can fairly easily replace which includes a better motor and metal gear (shitty GM part was and still is plastic like on a toy car) that should fix the motorized mirror folding permanently.

LINK

I'm about to replace both (even though only the driver's side is broken) and was trying to decide if I should crack the motor assembly open and replace the gear (cheaper) or just get the sealed motor kit and send in the core to get some money back.

If anyone has done this I'm curious what you did and how much of PITA it was to take your entire side mirror apart.

Considering the dealer wants $800 and will only replace it with another shitty plastic gear I'm not the least bit interested in "GENIUNE" GM replacement parts.

Makes sense. Not looking forward to treating the mirror down to get to the motor. Looks like a real pita.

I used Gruvenparts to swap out mirror motors. It was really easy. I also ordered door actuator motors from them too. That was a bit more difficult to swap out but it saved a ton of money for me and I’m now a pro at dismantling the doors on my Tahoe.

I've used Gruvenparts before, but I can't remember what I bought, so no help. But it was certainly for a 2008 GMC POS Denali that every 30 seconds a door lock would quit working, the auto lift gate, the mirrors, another door lock, dash cracking like a dried lake bed, constant GM quality reminders.

I'll try to look back through my email and find what I purchased and if it worked.

never considered owning a GM vehicle this old but we ended up with a creampuff from a family member thats rarely been out of the garage and has zero blemishes. wife loves it so i'm taking care of any obvious issues and so far the driver's side mirror folding is the only broken thing i've come across so i was planning to go ahead & replace both sides after seeing that toy car plastic gear they used.

Try eBay. I bought the enter mirror already painted for an Escalade.

i want the metal spur gear and better motor. same reason i'm not going to the dealer because the first time someone runs into the mirror that piece of shite plastic gear is going to break again. you'd think GM would at least offer a better quality replacement on a freaking cadillac as an option. i don't mind to pay for fixing something but i refuse to replace a defect with a defect.

looks like everyone who upgraded to a metal gear hasn't had the issue return.
