Cable, satellite, and internet service installers: Are they all crazy, sketchy,

or pissed off at the world?
I swear I have never had a good/pleasant experience with any of them. The Dish guy has been here for an hour. Besides the fact that he seems like the guy who keeps a woman in a deep hole in his barn (where she puts the lotion on her skin...or she gets the hose again), he has constantly complained about the stupid women who take the service calls and screw up his order/service forms. (I guess we know which women are in his barn.) The odd thing is, nothing is wrong with my service today! Every time I check on him, he has a new story about another worthless female employee.
I once had a Cox guy finish my service, take off his Cox hat, put on another hat with a telephone logo, and asked me, "What if I told you I could get you complete home telephone service for just 9.99 a month?" I told him to leave.
I had Charter come to my grandmother's house in the country. That idiot tried, not once but three times, to light up a cigarette inside her house...and she was in bed due to recent heart surgery. He got pissed at me and was complaining on his cell to somebody about how I was treating him...as he was hiding behind his truck...and while I was on the other side picking up stuff on my grandmother's front porch. He was surprised to see me there when he hung up and said, "Ahhh f***..." He instantly went back to work.
What are your experiences?

I would of flipped about the cigarette in the house.
Most of my experiences have been good.
My Cox guy installing the internet took off the cable filter so I have free cable.
The Directv guy ran the wires ugly on the outside of the house. But that is how they do it now. I fished half of them through the attic so it's nicer, but I got the service I paid for.
Unfortunately the worst of the worst seems to be in my industry. Appliance and refrigeration techs are usually prickish assholes only looking out to make an extra couple of dollars off of people.

That's a long post and I really didn't read it all.
My AT&T Uverse guy made me really uncomfortable. He spent more time hitting on me than he did setting up my service. I lived alone at the time and had to lie and tell him my boyfriend was on his way home thinking that would make him stop. Nope.
ETA: My boyfriend at the time ended up having to come over.

COX cable guys are definitely scummy. Had a COX cable guy come to my house a few weeks back because the cable box was acting funny. He started proposing all these ridiculous fixes, like running new cable lines, drilling holes, etc. He seemed very know it all-ish. I told him I'd have to check with the other residents before we made that call. After he left, I tried a new HDMI cable that I had bought the day before and all was fixed.
The guy probably gels his hair and wears affliction off the clock too.

That is sketchy! I have a daughter. If that happens to her, she could call me! Does your dad live close by? If so, always call dad! Even if he is 70, call dad!

I had the directv guy over the other day high as a kite. It was an hour after he left before my house didn't smell like someone had just smoked a blunt inside.

I used to think the word service meant someone who provided a public need.
Then the other day I stop to have a beer and two farmers were chatting about getting a bull to service a few heifers.
Suddenly it all made sense.

The last time I had a satellite guy here, he told me all this crap about his family owning a big company and how he wanted to make it on his own and so on. I asked for the name of the company which he gave, but I have never found a trace of that company.

Had the Cox contractor come out last Friday for internet. He was totally unprepared for the installation I needed as I explained to sales and the dispatcher. He knew next to nothing and I basically had to show him how to do everything.
The Dish contractor guy that did my install was very professional and knew his shite.

I had a cousin that installed Dish Network for awhile. He told me how they get paid;so much for each job.So they want to get in and get out.
I think there's a big turnover in employees so a lot of them don't care a whole lot about customer satisfaction.
The Comcast guy that's been here a couple of times has done a really good job.But he is employed by Comcast.

One of my close friends is an field tech for cox. He says that cox drills them all day to "make new sales" more than repair or install services. And if they don't make sales then it's to the chopping block. He hates that part of the job but he likes installing cable, running wiring, etc etc.
It's the contractors you gotta watch out for. With all of my experience with cable contractors, only one was sincerely cool. We ate pizza and drank a beer after he finished hooking my stuff up. He told me all about how he gets paid by the level of the work he gets and stuff.

Directv guy that came for my last service call was a little Chinese man with a heavy accent. Could barely understand him. Was very polite, and even got on the ladder and adjusted the dish in the rain. Gave me his card, "you haff enny problim, call mista Wong." Made my day. Lol.

Mostly all terrible experiences... When our UVerse was installed, the guy that buries the line ran it right through the middle of our yard instead of along the fence line as marked.
Our neighbors had UVerse installed, the box was in our backyard. But instead of calling ahead of time, the guy took the bolts out of the latch on our fence and let himself in without permission. When they came out again to bury her line in our yard, they cut our line and we were without service, internet and cable, for 7 days.
