Find a female sales person. Build raport and then take out your cock and balls stating this is your final offer onthe 4th test drive.

I would like something to fit 5 comfortably. 2 adults, 1 teenager, 2 children (ages 3 yrs and 3 mths old currently). The wife is absolutely opposed to a minivan. I've looked at the Honda Pilot, but the 3rd row seems too small. Any suggestions?

Look for a left over 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe.
We bought one today and I think we got a pretty damn good deal considering all the options in it.

A. Dealers cost is a lie.
B. Go to a forum of car brand and look for a 'PRICE PAID' thread.
c. Lowball dealer by at least $1000 of lowest price paid from thread.
D. Stick to price and leave dealership, noting lowest price offered.
E. Go to next dealership and repeat.
F. Do not buy on any first visit.
G. Email internet salesman of brand car you are willing to drive to. Get his best deal and decide if it's worth the drive.
H. You will get calls from the local salesman you visited. Stick to your price but at some point g ok with lowest offer.
Price LeBlanc Lexus only wanted to knock $1500 off sticker. I drove to Shreveport and got $5000 off same exact car.

35000 off of sticker? What was the mark up for undercoating and scotch guard?

1. Research online and then visit local dealers to test drive every car you'd potentially buy until you're sure of the exact make, model, year, and trim level you want.
2. Once you get the local dealers' walk-up price, search *nationwide* on Cars.com for the exact vehicle you want, sorted by lowest price.
3. Assuming the lowest prices nationwide on Cars.com are low enough to get your attention, start calling those far-off dealers - cheapest first - until you've found one who isn't playing games, has the advertised car in stock, and will hold it with your $500 credit card charge until you show up with the bank's check for the remainder. [In our case, the lowest legit price for a 2014 GMC on Cars.com was $8,000 below the Austin dealers, in St. Louis] Get a price confirmation by email from that dealer.
4. Call a few local dealers, plus some dealers in Houston and Dallas. Tell them "I'm ready to fly on Southwest to [wherever] to buy that car. Can you match the price?"
5. The local dealers will probably tell you to FO. You'll likely find some Houston and Dallas dealers (like we did) who will offer close to the same deal.
6. Decide whether to fly up to pick up the car, shop Houston or Dallas, or stay local.

If you have the money, you have the power. Remember that they need to sell you the car, it not you that needs to buy the car from them.
I went in and bought a truck, and as always, they ask "what do you want your not to be?"
Dont fall for that.
I tild her I wasn't financing a dime over 25k, and I wasn't lutting anything down.
Got more for my trade than I thought and only put down $450. (I actually brought $2500 with me to put down, because I was expecting to get about $2k less for my trafe than I thought.)

A couple of things...treat the trade in of your car, the buying of the new car, and the financing of the new car as three separate transactions...that's why they always ask about your note because they mix and match different parts of the sale to confuse you. Get your financing first and make them beat that number.
Give them a time deadline...I've only got 45 minutes before I have got to be somewhere...keeps them from trying to use the delay tactics on you...

Walk in, tell them what you are willing to pay. Give them your phone number. Walk out. Come back 3 days later when they meet your price. They make a profit, and you'll still feel robbed.

Tell them you are going to Houston or Dallas which have more competition, which is true. We've actually gone to Dallas for this reason.
Exactly. Have gone to both these places to buy almost every car we have had. Been to Dallas twice to buy two used diesel trucks. More houston lots than baton rouge and new orleans combined. Only one local dealer has ever matched the price and saved me the drive. Even working at a local dealer for years I could get the same exact car cheaper in Houston. Locals are a joke.

The Pilot is serviceable, but the minivan is the correct option here. My wife felt the same way, because she didn't want to be that mini-van mom, and me, not particularly wanting to drive one on the weekends (even though I knew it was the better choice) agreed to buy the Pilot. The rear seat is fine for kids up through elementary school. No full size human could ever sit back there. It's been a great vehicle, though.
Serious truth - anyone who tells someone with a family of five or larger to get an SUV, even a giant SUV, is the dumbest frick alive. It is absolutely amazing how unintelligent people (yes, I was one of them) will allow vanity to come before practicality.

If you're trading a car in, don't let them know that until you're working the financing up (after you've gotten a quote). Act like the trade in was a spur of the moment decision. They will bend you over on the trade in and find a way to build in a little profit into the price. Also, most service plans are rip offs, on the back end of it.
