I put almost 180k on a 2002 V6 (before it was totaled in an accident) and it had zero mechanical issues -
That's about 200k shy of the 22R I wrenched on years ago. 180k isn't much by any standard these days. No excuse not to get at least 250k out of any truck and I wouldn't brag about anything until it rolled 350-400k.

Yeah, unfortunately accidents happen - as it was mechanically "clean" after 180k, I am suggesting the truck had 250k to 300k easily - with new shocks, springs and tires, it drove like a brand new truck. No slip in the transmission. No noticeable decrease in compression or horsepower. Obviously the interior had a little age, but even Toyota interiors age fairly well.

My '13 DC sees all its servicing at the Toyota dealership. I pay $48 for a M1 oil change, tire rotation, and a general look-over of the truck. Forget trying to be smarter than a Toyota engineer, thinking a K&N air filter is better than a OEM Toyota air filter etc. etc.
Just let the dealer do all your routine maintenance, using Toyota parts, and you're golden. Change the oil every 5k miles with M1 or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum

If you have four wheelers and golf carts to tow I'd get the 6 cylinder. Especially if the slow pick up bothers you.

yeah ive pretty much decide on the 6, plus its a little cheaper and 35k miles isn't to bad on a used

Not a bad decision either way. You'll be happy with the 6er

Which TRD is it? They make a Sport and an Off-road. The Off-road comes with locking diff, which would be awesome for a 2wd, and the Sport comes with a hood scoop and color matched grill and other goodies. My 13 has 35k, and it's pretty much brand new.

I had a taco then got a full size. The tacoma doesn't even seem like a truck to me now honestly.

I went from a full sized to a Tacoma and I can't believe I drove something so boring that long. Owning a off-road vehicle for the first time in my life is mind blowing. One trip out west for the mountain trails and I'm hooked. A Tacoma is so much more comfortable and road worthy than a Jeep, with almost the off-road capability...it's perfect for me.
